Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

It's not a dash out operation. Did he use the "key" to unlock the stock head unit?

Once you get the keys it is pretty striaght forward.
I ordered some on Ebay. Cost me $2. A mate even went down to his local VW and they did it for nothing.

He's either a mech or an auto-elec. Most unlikely to be qualified in both.

If riveted in speakers are causing him to stumble then maybe he's best to stick with alternators & starter motors?

Installed a 5ch amp + new speakers, wiring & sound deadening myself, not overly hard to do yet quite time consuming if you want it perfect, drove the car around like a gocart with no interior panels for about 2 - 3 weeks, fun times.
