Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. • Josh's Polo GTI

    Hi guys,

My names Josh from south western Sydney, 26 years old.

Decided to start a thread to share my car as well as introduce my self.

I have just acquires a 2006 Red Polo GTI. 64,000kms on the clock.

I have come from a 1994 Pulsat GTiR with ALL the bells and whistles besides a gearbox rebuild and ended up costing me a fortune and lost interest. By the end of it was it was 255kw atw guzzling 2tanks a week and was my daily .

I then decided to change to a 2003 Corolla Sportivo great little zippy car did a few little mods to it and had that for 4yrs.

I was then tossing up between a 2004peanut eye wrx, Polo GTI, Gold GTI. My wife and I decided on the Polo as it ticked all the boxes and for the age, kms, rego, mods the price was to good to pass up.

OK! now to the good part.

    Specs:
    2006 Red Polo GTI

    APR Stage 1
    Forge TIP
    Forge intercooler piping
GFB Diverter/BOV? same thing? i don no
    SP160
    Turbo back stainless Milltek Exhaust

    Rear upper strut bar
    Front upper strut bar
    FRESH 12months rego

    Future mods:
    Coilovers (Still sorting out brand)
    New wheels
    FMIC
    Stage2

Also in the immediate future a complete flush, service and my good friend who is a mechanic look over the whore car if there's anything i missed that needs attention. I like to do it all at once then that way I know the car starts fresh from when i get it.

I only just got home from picking it up so i will get some photos up tomorrow and hopefully make a start on ordering future parts soon. Bonus is that its tax time!

Anyway i hope to get involved in the community and learn a lot!

Look over the "whore" car. Hahaha, yeah tap that arse.

Welcome. Lots of info about what you're looking to do. Check out some of the stickies for information about intercoolers and the recent suspension thread is getting some momentum. Intercoolers have been tested back to back with varying mod levels and solid results.

The GFB diverter is essentially a plumb back blow of valve. The polo's won't run a bov to atmosphere, must be plumbed. The air intake is a PD160, they come off a diesel Seat Ibiza if I recall correctly. Likewise, the SeatSport intercooler is from a diesel, well that's my understanding but could be wrong...

Welcome Josh! Some nice mods already mate. You'll find plenty of info on these forums to help you out (I've owned my GTI since Feb and the forums have been a life saver).

I've just ordered the SeatSport intercooler and will be installing it hopefully next weekend. It's definitely the more recommended one.

Awesome let me know how it goes! Super keen to get mine underway.

Going to attempt to make a "cone-in-a-box" filter. I got a cnc laser machine at work so I'll do a drawing and laser cut some 0.9 or 1.5mm stainless.

Also is it worth getting a v-checker? Or just get a vagcom cable?

I have my pod filter in the standard airbox with the standard lid. It works a treat and looks stock. You just have to get a bit creative with the dremel and a silicone elbow. I can upload some photos if your interested.

              Hoyhoy.

JabbaSport Fabia vRS "Cone In Box" Filter Replacement

This an exact fit, so no mucking about needed.

Thats the one i intend on mimicking. i can laser cut stainless, zinc, gal at work to the perfect size and a cutout for the filter. plenty of fabrications tools at my work. something i can fiddle with before i build the bank up again for rims and coils

Put my car into Camden GTI yesterday.
Quite impressed with the service. Had them do a complete once over, Timing belt service, all filters and fluids changed, plugs etc..

Drives a heap smoother now. Now that all that's out of the way i can begin looking for more mods!

                    Quick update.

Attacked the badges and fuel cover with black plastidip. Stock wheels are next should look a bit better as I'm not really into the stock wheels and will hide some imperfections.

Removed the SAI and pump. Used a 380ohm resistor. Worked well for 2k kms then got a CEL. All good though I'll just keep clearing it till stage 2 and get APR to clear that line out. Or possibly change to CC.

Also got a OBD2 Bluetooth adaptor and torque app pretty fun to mess with.

Been getting home to late to take some decent pics but I'll try get some up asap.

Ordered some bits and pieces too:
                    -stubby antenna
                    -yellow tint for foggies
                    -universal rubber front lip
-head unit adaptor to run iPod and aux 3.5mm

Still deciding on rims and coils. I just want a decent ride and drop it 20 to 30mm.

                      Don't think APR do a stage 2.

Happy CC stage 2 customer here. I had the SAI CEL deleted as part of the tune.

Which OBD did you go with?? Can you record data to your phone? e.g. exhaust and/or intake temps being recorded for 10mins. Would like to record that stuff during a track day. Would just want to pull it into excel to graph the temps.

It shows Stage 1,2,3 on their website i will have to inquire further then. a Stage2 tune which ever route i go wont happen for a while anyway i want to get all the other mods out of the way + probably a FMIC too.

I went with this one Mini ELM327 V1 5 OBD2 II Bluetooth Diagnostic CAR Auto Interface Scanner AU | eBay it was bloody cheap but does the job. as for logs i know the app lets you overlay and record guages, stats etc for tracks as for logs im not to sure i havnt got that far into it yet works been killing me.

No EGT in the Polo unfortunately. A std sidemount would be overwhelmed pretty easily. Seat Sport is my recommendation for a FMIC. Needs a pipe kit but I have the MAP sensor pipes available. THe rest can be bought off the net.
