  • Hello from Perth (RColt.com W.A. Liaison)

luv what VW has done to the Polo gti, was on my shortlist (along with other casr) when searching for a hot hatch, but for my own reasons ended up buying a Mitsubishi Ralliart Colt. (*waits for sighs of disgust! lol) Think the polo gti is the closest in power and performance to our Ralliart Colts, so Im sure they go great

Have joined your forum as a liaison amongst new hot hatch (ie the big 4 in our class being the: XR4, Suzi Swift Sports, VW Polo gti and RColt) owners in Perth, with a view to organising some friendly events together over time AND I STRESS FRIENDLY! [we are all supporters of small performance/ hot hatches!] . Not sure how many members you guys got in Perth. We’ve currently about 10 RColt members in Perth from my mob http://www.rcolt.com One event I'd like to organise to go ahead in a few months or so??? is an AHG track day with reps from the 4 different car groups.

AHG info if your interested: http://www.dtec.com.au/
They have a nice Skid Pan to do witches hats time trials on etc... I am going for a round with a ton of workmates end of April if any you guys wanted to come for a watch and see what its all about, pm me for details? (Unfortunately no spots left for this round)
    Looks a pro setup hey:

Most RColt members are over East x and I'm guessing same for you guys? hence why if we get reps at events from the 4 groups mentioned we should be able to get good numbers happening for events/drives/meets etc???

**** Anyways if there are any Perth Polo gti members here would like to be a liaison for the Polo mob let me know ****
    my msn is sithrev@hotmail.com

If there are VW Polo gti Eastern Staters here wanting to organise the same sort of setup over East let me know as weve tons of active members over there! I can probably get you a liaison there if desired?

Yes it is a great idea, been thinking for a while about something like this to get people together to experience and enjoy the various competititors out there, a small-hot-hatch cruise would be interesting! Too bad its in the wrong state for me good luck!

BTW been a long time lurker on Rcolt too.

cool, quicker response on here than on the XR4 and swift forums! had some interest from a Perth XR4 owner, nothing from any swift sports owners yet though?. Early days, but good to get some talk on the mixed events idea going for starters then maybe a state rep from each group to liaise with each other.

got a pm from one of your WA polo gti owners already

Amongst your selves if you guys want to come up with a hot hatch 'mixed event coordinator' from each state I am happy to endevour to establish similiar state contacts form my RColt mob and the XR4 and swift groups. The we can get the ball rolling from there? please let me know your msn to advertise (if you don't mind)

I'll keep an update list on each of the forums for all to keep an eye on

I like the idea of that. It would be great to have something like that on the East Coast of Australia. I can not be rep due to my work commitments.

From my extremely costly, brief experience owning a SSS, the owners are likely too busy stopping the things from falling apart/fixing myriad problems to get involved.

Sorry, you did say to keep it friendly...

              Good luck with your endeavours!

                  Hey there Rev.

Also a Rcolt member - for me it was a tossup between the Colt and the Polo - I like them.

In fact, had a bit of fun with one of your guys (Emperor?) over this way the other week.

hey rev, just to start off with a friendly bit of sledging, you may have seen the MOTOR magazine sub $30K shoot-out of the above mentioned 4 cars. the testing and write-up was about 4-5 months ago i think?
i'm sure all of us Polo GTI owner would have been happy with the result on a win on the scaling, however, unfortunately for yourselves, the XR4 came in second on a fantastic chassis and handling basis, then the RColt, and then somewhere well behind at the end......the Swift. not too fair on the swift having to go up against these cars, but hey, it's there for some reason.

i would be definitely up for a gold coast/brisbane event or two......or five.

i have a mate with an RColt and we've been meaning to show each other up.....would be a good opportunity.

                    all the best with it

yeah if you saw the December 2007 Wheels magazine write up they rated the Polo gti the overall best package of the 4. looked a pretty balanced view really (Although I could probably find 100+ RColt.com members who'd dispute some of their reports ). Think they mentioned the Ralliart as a harder core drivers package etc.. but in any case I think you will find every review differs slightly, and I am sure each groups owners will argue the case for thier product

Hence why it might be good to get some troops from each camp to a track/time trial day and other events. Be alot different getting drivers who are actually experienced in getting the best out of their cars. Might put to test some of the 'critics' opinions in some circumstances. Obviosly driver skill would play alot into times at track days etc... but wouldnt it be great to run against each other and do our own review of the big 4 under different conditions?

Personally I find all 4 hot hatches have their own cosmetic etc... appeal, can only vouch for the Ralliart Colt driving experience though, and have to say am absolutely loving it.

Like with our mob I'd expect some owners to be adding some mods that could imporve performance in alot fo areas of the vehicles too. BUt hey even if we can only get a handful of reps from each group to an event I think it may sprout much talk about future 'Mixed' events around the country?.
