The MK IV(4) Golf is the model before the current shape Golf. The MK IV had the same 1.8 20v Turbo motor as the current Polo GTI. This engine is shared with quite a few VAG vehicles, including the Audi S3(post above).

I'd definitely go to an event like this in Brisbane should it ever extend out of Perth.

Hey Laurie, I see you got yourself an XR4! Congrats mate, read somewhere your bro has got the Opel now.

Yeah I would be interested to see where this goes as well. As stated above, Mk IV GTI has the same engine as new Polo GTI so only fair to come let us play too!!!

I don't have the time, although I could set up some sort of website (I am a web designer/developer) to have all the info for all states in 1 spot. Photos etc etc

How much was the Golf when new? Technically the Audi TT has the same engine, but was over twice the price range that this even is for?

I mean it would boost numbers, but technically they have unfair advantages.

Yer mate, Thanks. VW couldn't supply in a resnable time nor was there any movment on price when I went into both dealers.

I looked at the pros and cons and the XR4 won over the GTI.
(I may think different in time but till the end of my degree It should keep me happy) least its still German built.

Yep Justin now own the Opel so will be bring it out when I have desided he is not going to be a prick to others and relises were his level of driving belongs ect keep him and every one else safe

hahahaha, 27AME a.k.a. TOO LAME.....thats my mate nick. seriously rev, hot tip, find a new co-ordinator. that kid struggles to co-ordinate his own life let alone car events. he used to own a mazda 2 and organised a mazda cruise......it was.....ummm....a....good turn out

but hey, give him a go, see what he can organise for around here. although i have only seen a slect few RColts running the streets of the Gold Coast.

and sorry, would not be able to be a co-ordinator, i work a full time job whilst studying full time.....ive got enough on my plate.

what are the criteria for joining the show?

my S3 cost circa $28k, but was sold new in 2000 for around $65k

so I'm presuming you say it doesnt qualify? even though its a small hot hatch? I would have thought for a day at AHG, you are not competing against each other, but against the clock, the track and yrself?

No matter what yr "initial cost" criteria is, people will always mod their car and gain an "advantage" over others with the same vehicle

Well.. the point of a class is to exclude anything not in the class.

I'm not saying you can't join, that's not up to me, but opening it up to that = opening it up and then it won't be the event it started off being. A3, S3, WRX hatches etc etc. Where would it stop?

Agreed, fully support you there, just wasnt aware of what yr class boundaries are.

was just hoping for an opportunity to try out my S3 round AHG, perhaps as a "guest"? ive done it already in my FPV GT-P and was curious to know how it might compare

Yeah really trying to keep it to the 4 cars listed, else might expand out of control a bit? although in saying that if we look like we need exrta numbers for things like track days?, the relevant Coordinators may allow other vehicles as 'guests'??? but so far we have no Polo gti Coordinators put their hands up lol!

AHG also holds open time trial/track days one Sunday of every month, so You may be able to book yourself or with a couple of mates down the track etc...? will look into that more closely myself soon

I have a couple Polo gti guys coming to the RColt cruise end of this month so maybe one of those will volunteer for the WA Polo Coords job? Hoping to get the WA XR4 Coordinator there too, so we can meet and discuss future mixed events time permitting?
