yeah i'm pretty sure they are not. there is no sensor on the windscreen anywhere for that function. usually it is on the back of the rear view mirror and on the Polo GTI, there is nothing.

The wipers on the polo GTI's are rain sensing but only when they are left on "intermittent". The wiper/light lever has a switch on top of it that changes the sensitivity of the sensor. I have mine on intermittent all of the time and when it starts raining they come on automatically.

I only noticed this feature when I had accidentally left the wipers on intermittent and a few days later they came on straight away when it rained

If you have the switch set to the far right it will be really sensitive though and may just keep the wipers going if there is a bit of dirt on the windscreen.

The rear one doesn't have a sensor though.

Um ... no. Not rain-sensitive so much as timed intermittent.

Well he says "I have mine on intermittent all of the time and when it starts raining they come on automatically". I don't believe mine are auto sensing as I have had my windscreen replaced and didn't have to worry bout it (I know MINI windscreens with this feature are diff price to normal). Perhaps it was an upgrade, callen what year build is yours?

No, they aren't rain sensing. It also says in the manual in brackets"(If rain sensing wipers are fitted)"

Unless you had it fitted as a factory option, you don't have Rain Sensing Wipers. Also, the 4 position switch on the right hand wiper stalk is only for adjusting intermittent wiper speed, not the sensitivity of the rain sensor. If you also look in the manual, it shows a picture of what the sensor looks like, and where it is located(under the attachment point of the window mounted rear view mirror)...

                ohhh...ok
I thought for a few days that I did have rain sensing wipers. I guess I just didn't read it properly.
                thanks guy~

yeah the switch on top of the stalk, as dave said, is for the different timing between sweeps on the intermittent wipers.

how long have you had your GTI for bec and callen, this may be a new feature on recent build GTI's...does anyone else have this and what is the build date?

This far thru the production life of this car ... I seriously doubt that VW will be putting another expensive option on the table. New Pogo due out late next year ... maybe the GTI will have them.

-Polo GTI- my car is almost two months old. i don't think i have it. i forgot to read the fine print in the manual which said that it only applied to those with this option.
and danno2908 im not lazy i was just reading the manual and i thought if i have this option then why not use it? it's like cruise control. it's not hard leaving your foot on the accelerator it's just if you have it why not use it?
                            actually i take that back.
im a lazy bugger that's why i have a car cuz i love driving it around instead of taking public transport or asking my brother if i can use his car!

Bec - I wasn't implying anything. I just remember when a sales guy was trying to talk me into buying the new lancer VRX, all he could come up with was automatic headlights and wipers. but the lancer just seemed to boring and serious, where as the polo is fun to drive - especially where I live, I reckon we have some of the best driving roads in Australia down here!
