But the Polo is a 02R which is essence is an 02J internally but may have a different final drive and reverse gear.

Ok so apparently the actual gear box codes for the Polo are EWR, GGV, HET.

Does anyone have access to ETKA to check?

Mine is HWY, done a physical on the box. It is on the sticker in the service book too.

Ok thanks to Jmac for counting the teeth on the Polo's HWY box which are 62/17. So checked that against the spread sheet from SQS that Njay posted which says we have a final drive of 3.647.

So they also say the stock gear ratios are



But the speeds are calculated from a 3.684 final drive. So will this just affect the speed at certain RPM? And if so will the Polo's final drive make these speeds higher being a smaller drive?

3 codes for the 02R in the Gti are - HWY, JDB and GVZ. The final drive ratio for these 3 are - 62:17 = 3.647.
I do have the individual ratios somewhere, if I get a chance ill post them up later.

Here's what I've found in ETKA

JDB (05.06-03.09)
1 - 33/10 - 02j311251e
2 - 35/18 - 02j311261k
3 - 34/25 - 02a311129CC
4 - 30/29 - 02a311145BF
5 - 31/38 - 02a311361at

HWY (10.05-08.06)
1 - 33/10 - same as JDB
2 - 35/18 - same as JDB
3 - 34/25 - 02a311129AS
4 - 30/29 - 02a311145K
5 - 31/38 - same as JDB

So the ratio are the same, but the part number is different for 3&4 gears.

(can't find info for GVZ)
