      RDA vs DBA Rotors

Are those weights for your car or a generic Polo? Quite light...

The new Golf is around 1350, pretty good with the new frame system. I'm not sure if that's with fluids.

The Polo GTI with cloth seats is 1137 or 1139kg depending on source. Either way there won't be a VW as light and with such power potential in a very, very long time

          All done and dusted!

Bought a $15 brake piston pusher and away we go...

Bricks behind back wheels, trolley jack the PoG up then a stand under the round looking bit and finally a an old spare tyre under the car(safety, safety, safety)...

18mm (and rubber hammer) for the upper and lower calliper bolts, tie (with string) the calliper up. Pull the pads, push the piston back in and then new Brembo pads in.

Torque bit the rotor off then wipe the new rotor face with metho, torque bit the new rotor in to place. Calliper back on.

18mm (and rubber hammer) for the upper and lower calliper bolts.

Wheel studs on, list Pog, remove the stand, lower to the ground & tighten wheel studs.

          Repeat on the other side.

          300k to bed then in....

          Worst part.....

Dumb arse, lost the key to the VW lock nut.....

Should I be feeling a bit sketchy about getting them from SCA for the sake of about $50? At least they are nearby!
Sorry guys, still looking for an opinion on this! Saves about 12 13% which I need, bout how would I go for warranty etc through SCA?

Another thing, if just going for the upgraded pads first, is a rotor machining very likely? The last post didn't need to?

Stick with the DBA discs mate, you won't have to spend money for machining the RDA discs when (NOT IF) they distort.

If you look into the warranty for Rotors it's pretty limited, 30 days or something
Ordering from GSL can be a right pain in the butt,
they have screwed up and delayed every single order I've placed with them
Save your money and stress levels, go to SCA

In theory you should machine the rotors otherwise the pads won't bed in and won't have total contact with the rotor
                It's not expensive ($30~$50)

If your current rotors are in very good shape (smooth, not grooved) you could get away without machining them
Given you are looking to buy rotors also, best/cheapest option is to do both pads & rotors at the same time

Was never going for RDAs, just asking whether to buy DBA T2's from GSL or SCA?

Thanks Martin, didn't know the warranty was that short! How does that work?

I think they are saying the product is good when new/delivered
But brakes cop a hiding and it becomes very hard to provide warranty for this sort of item once it's used in anger

Wow, your experience really surprises me. I've had several orders with GSL and they were courteous and efficient in most cases and quickly rectified the issue with the order that wasn't fully correct.

Yep - I'm down 3 for 3 and pretty much over it
They are courteous - but error prone and slow in resolving problems
In one order, they made 3 mistakes, it's frustating when the remedial action is incorrect (and slow), twice

I see you've also encountered variable speed and some errors:

                          :
You should loosen the lid of the brake master cylinder with the possibility of syphoning out some brake fluid first.

If SCA is cheap & local then go for it.

The need to machine rotors is totally dependant on the current condition of the rotor & the type of pad.

If the rotor is lipped & rippled then the outcome will be fairly lousy. If it's a really soft pad you might get away with it.

If your current pads aren't fuxored & you can't afford to do the job 100% then maybe leave it for a while.
