  • RDA vs DBA Rotors

    Hi All

I need to replace front rotors and I am looking at options.....

around $195 for Dimpled and Slotted RDA

    or

    about $330 for Slotted DBA

    Anyone have anything to say?

    Thanks
    ~graham

I've had both on Commodores in the past. The RDA's would start shuddering and need to be machined after one spirited drive through the hills, and would be covered in surface rust after sitting for a couple days in winter.
With the DBA's I didn't need to touch them after installing. Stopped well and looked good for the 12 months until I sold the car

I'll be putting DBA's on both the new daily and the project car when I get around to it

      RDA vs DBA Rotors

Don't buy slotted or cross drilled unless you want the looks or you are racing. Plain faced rotors should also save you some coin as well as offering a greater contact patch with the pads.

Tis all I have to say about that.

        Re: RDA vs DBA Rotors

I prefer slotted rotors, always have them on our cars when there is an opportunity to put the new rotors on. My experience with the RDA rotors is exactly the same as the above. Get the DBA.

          RDA = china man rubbish
DBA has better quality, and from the research I've done, there known worldwide now.*
The cheapest place I found was Auto1 in Blacktown.*
The T2 slotted rotors for a vr6 was discontinued, but these guys some how managed to get them to make a batch !
I highly recommend those guys if you live far away, call'em an get a quote.
Just check the DBA website, so you know exactly what you want.

If you just get a plan slotted rotor (supercheap etc will always offer you the cheapest option, not knowing the difference, so you have to mention the series your after), DBA take there oem rotor an slot that. Nothing wrong with that, It just doesn't live up to the expectation you may have been told. The street series from what I've seen, don't last long on the track, but the Heavy Duty series (4000/5000 series) does.

I remember hearing at some point that Brembo pads can be dusty and sometimes noisy. I'd be interested to see how you go with them. I'm planning on getting QFM HPX (I think it is) for both my cars.

Greg at GSL RallySport used to recommend the QFM HPX for high performance street use but he changed to the Remsa pads as it was cheaper and gave the same performance. This may have changed with the drop in our dollar but I'd check with him (and buy from him as one of our sponsors).

I know I'm late to the party and you've already purchased the DBA's, but in case anyone reads this in future, the drilled rda's start to crack at the drilled points due to the materials used. This is extremely likely to happen if you take your car to the track. Also, excuse the cliche comment, my best mate's sti liberty started with just the slotted RDA rotors on the rears of his car, he would complain about a lot of noises caused by the poor slot design on the rotors, this was fixed once he switched to DBA.

Ta, I was getting the QFM's based on Gregs advice from years ago. I'll definately check out the Remsa's from GSL. I havent bought brake or suspension parts from anywhere else in a long time

Yeah the standard brakes on the GTI were appalling after 5,000kms from new I was going to do an expensive rotor upgrade but got the Remsas from GSL based on advice from here and they are a huge improvement. For the street they are really all you need and fantastic value.

Sorry about the thread hijack, but they aren't too dusty are they? Whatever is on my subaru at the moment turns the front wheels black within a week. Drives me insane

Nope, not particularly dusty at all. Should get a few weeks before obvious dust build up. I run remsa's front and rear now, on my second set for the front. Was going to go with QFM, but GSL talked me out of it sighting the remsa's should suffice for temps to 650c. I track my car and they are a sufficient a compromise for street and track driving. Bearing in mind the polo doesn't weigh much, a heavier car may not be so happy on the track with these pads. But on the street, there is no reason you should exceed these brake temps.

                            What does a Polo weigh??

Im getting the front DBA T2 streets soonish. GSL quoted $165 each +$25 for postage to Melbourne. Supercheap Auto will do them for $130ish each and $9 postage, $282 total. I think Remsa pads were $110 for front at GSL.

Should I be feeling a bit sketchy about getting them from SCA for the sake of about $50? At least they are nearby!
