FFS, I am not shooting the test down -- you and anyone else are entirely free to anything with your cars that you like, just as I am free to offer comments .... see why flames wars happen

...and there's no way you'll get a stage 2 Polo with LSD, let alone a stage 1 or stock Polo around Winton in under 1:40....even with sticky, sticky slicks

well, this test, should it go ahead, will be very interesting cuz with quarter mile times that kai has landed im begining to rethink the polo is the chick version of the golf calm down! JUST JOKES!!!! but seriously . . .

Tim you're probably right, under 1.40 at Winton is pushing it - no doubt, and I don't think anyone has specifically claimed the Polo GTI will beat 1.40 at Winton, but keep in mind, the test isn't based on lap times alone.

A positive outcome of the test is that it would put an end to speculation and provide some certainty.

          Just FYI,

I just happen to have a Boxster "S" with a roof (my cayman S!) it ran a 13.5 sec 1/4 mile 4 times over in the indy rally, it would wheel spin slightly off the line, but then hook up.

Just meaning that the Boxster is way, way more efficient at putting the power down than either our golf or polo is

Yes is definately is, ..it is a Porsche ..but, it doesn't mean the Polo and Golf GTI collective shouldn't declare war on the Boxter S

MACCAA declared war on Winton race track and got camber adjusters, Timbo's declared war on the turbo bolts, ...why not the Boxter S?

..as they say, to be the best, ya gotta beat the best

All of us here know the Pog is a giant-killer ....we just need to remember the first rule of giant killing: first, pick your giant....

This has been several pages of.... Umming and AAAhhing...

Im not trying to sound rude or anything but it seems that the original question was what a polo does, and the reply was.. a porshe does it in X.XX seconds......... or... I know but im not telling... i meen... its like asking if someone knows the time and getting... a smile a nod and then nothing.

Im tired and grumpy and i need love. And dinner. and a million dollars. and maybe a porshe since its been stated in this post to be the better car....

I have serious doubts that any pogo here can break the 6 second mark as a road going vehicle.

With APR stage 1 and street tyres I did a 1.52 at Winton (I'm a pretty average driver), a better driver could probably get to 1.50
My Pog will beat a Boxter around Winton, but a Boxter S will leave me in it's dust.

                        Umm ... Guy ?

                        Which is quicker from 80 - 120 km/h ? The Cayman S or the Polo ?

                        ..... Just to stir .....

I thought Michael Taylor's Motor article was pretty good... It pretty much stated that chasing the magic 0-100km/h was pointless..... Torque is the king and in the real world on the road you will use the 330+NM on a chipped Polo much more than anything else.... And it is here where the giant killing abilities of the Polo really comes in to the equation.

Don't get me wrong, I love launching hard from standstill and will pretty much try out anything looking capable of being challenging and worthy to beat.....

Guy .... arrange for a testing session and I will be there .....

Sounds like we all need to get together on a non rainy weekend & do some testing!

I even have my old G-tech meter here too so its possible to strap three different measuring devices into one car
