Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • polo owners previously owned cars

    Hi Guys and Gals,
I believe that the pogo that i am awaiting delivery on is probably the best overall car that i have driven and will own (soon i hope)

I have had other cars, but one that stands out was a 82 datsun 280zx black.
just the handling and standout looks draw me too it.it unfortunately had to be sold to another datsun fan. (he has since fully restored it and it is awesome)

So begs the question, what cars have pogo owners had previously that have been ace??

    Cheers
    Ben

Best car is the next car

I have had in the last 6 or so years
    Nissan Patrol GU
    Holden Fonterra
    Honda CRV
    Landcruiser 100
    SS VXII
    HSV Clubsport R8 VXII
    Honda Accord Euro
    WRX MY05 (Modified by MRT)
    Golf TDI 2.0 (APR Chipped)
    Polo TDI 1.9 (APR Chipped)
Current Polo GTI (with KO4, Clutch, Exhaust, APR, FMIC, LSD)

All great cars, I think the Polo will have to go away soon....so many more cars to have. Golf GTI or R32 next perhaps.

Honda was great, I got out of the clubsport to get into it and found it a bit slow. I did get quotes on turbocharging it but at the time decided against it.
It is one of the cars I would be happy to go back to once I get over the bug. I did also own some other "classics" Jaguar XJ6L Series II (What a disaster that was), a VC Commodore with no air, XC Falcon, some Ford Escort, and a Nissan Pulsar somewhere in there as well.

youve had some killer cars then ralph.

my 280zx was absolutely magic to drive.

              I had a turbocharged pulsar that i wrecked/wrote off
              Speeding 19yo
took me one year to drive again

I have learnt the mistakes i have made. and genuinely love being part of this forum.

                  Thanks Ben.

When I got the Polo we were not planning to have any more kids, on the odd occasion that I take our new addition anywhere it is becoming painful with the seating arrangement and the back breaking effort with 2 doors...anyway I may use that as a good excuse to get into a new one, although I reckon gettin rid of the Polo is going to be like getting rid of one of my other toys....I have nearly advertised it but don't want to...what a dilemma

                        Mmmm, I've had a few ....

1995 VW Golf VR6 (Many small mods, 160kw at the flywheel, lovely sound, still miss it!)

                        2000 BMW 328i (K&N only)

1998 Opel Corsa 1.6 Turbo (Many mods including custom turbo setup, 155kw ATW, little beast)

2002 BMW Z3 M-Coupe (K&N only, ugly beast, but what a glorious sound, and serious go!)

1995 BMW M3 3.0 (Many small mods, 248kw at the flywheel, tested top end of 277km/h)

2001 Isuzu 3.2 V6 KB DualCab 4x4 ute (Holden Rodeo in Oz, got caught doing 181km/h)

1980 VW Golf 1800 16V Turbo (243kw ATW, 12.3s quarter mile, difficult to handle on full boost!)
                        )
2006 VW Polo GTi (many small mods, FMIC next on the list, more to come.....)

next up will be a BMW 135i (with many mods!) for me and VW Tiguan 2.0TSI for the wife. (with many mods) ....

and yes, I've been tempted by the dark side of the force....

2006 Suzuki GS500 (for commuting and the wife on weekends, does 400km on 15 litres in town!... beat that TDi's and it does 0-100km/h in 5.5 seconds)

2007 Suzuki GSR600 (for some real accelleration.... 0-100km/h in 3 seconds)

                          Sharkie,

That is an interesting collection and I too am finding the 135 very appealing, did some preliminary research on chipping the 335 and Chiptorque are claiming 50% odd increase for $1200 odd. Now I only need the other $100k odd for the 335 or is it about $80k for the 135. As far as bikes go even my Harley beats the GTI. My ST1300 used to get nods and waves from the cops!! probably the bike to have then.

I've spoken to Guy (APR & DMS) on both the Tiguan and the 135i. Obviously the Tiguan with the GTI engine will be easily done. 4Motion and turbo power will be great.

The 135i (and 335i) will be available soon through DMS as they are working hard on getting a chip done. Expect over 300kw and 550NM. The base price is expected to be around $80K, which will be cheap for what you get...... mmmm ... twin turbo and rear wheel drive ..... The chip should be ready by the time it hits Australia ....

                              have previously owned the following.
LX Torana 4.2V8 with full spoiler kit red/black
                              VC SLE Commodore 4.2V8 black
                              VSII Commodore Esteem V6 Green
                              VTII SS 5.7V8 Black
                              Mazda SP20 Silver
Current is a Subaru Forester XT Luxury red and 1957 oval beetle yellow.
forester making way for a Jetta TFSI in Feb 08.

Torana... well... what a peice of crap that was... had an electrical fire in it after a few months of owning it... aside from that it was ok as a first car.
VC SLE... much better than the Torana...
VSII was my first new car but didn't have enough oomph with just a V6
VTII SS.. wanted one of these for ages and finally got it... loved it for about 12 months... then it went pear shaped. auto gearbox replacement after 45000k's.. paint on roof started to fade around the sunroof... leather interior started to wear... at 90000k's i had the gearbox replaced AGAIN... so finally got fed up and sold it.
Mazda... great little car... well built and had no trouble with it at all.
Forester.. loved it when i first got it and only had a fuel pump failure over the four years i've owned it. after a few years i started to get the ****s with the gear ratios in it (manual) as i feel like i am changing gears all the time etc... specially when i tramp it a bit. runs out of revs real quick.
have to say tho out of all of em probably the best mix of build quality, performance and reliability.

                              my wifes cars have been
                              1968 semi auto beetle
                              KC Laser
numerous lasers over the years.. too many to remember
                              WRX (bug eyed model)
SP20... yes we had matching cars.. lol.
Current 2003 New Beetle Convertible, 2007 Polo GTI, 1974 1300 Beetle.

in my opinion best out of all these were WRX, and the current cars.
                              1974 1300 Beetle, 1997 Golf GL, 2003 New Beetle Cabrio, 2014 Audi A4 quattro
