  • Tyres for xmas

I think I'm going to be smart about planning what I want for Christmas and Ive never owned decent tyres.

    I'm currently running 215 / 40 / 17 Kumho 31's, they're good for a budget tyre. I think they are a bit hard if that makes sense...

What I want is something that will help me keep the power down when accelerating out of corners and wont kill me in the wet.

I have had a look in the tyre sticky, so many options, opinions, etc, I thought I'd break it out into a new thread.

Only interested in the front tyres for the time, semi-slick or something, around the $250 a piece (Sydney) price.

Wear isnt much of an issue as my car is still to hit the 45K kms mark for an '06.

Yeah, I'd suggest the RSRs as well.

If you're only doing 2, I'd stick with the same size as the rears.

      215/40R17 RS-R @ $189 fitted, from a certain forum sponsor...

If I had my time over I would get the RSR's over the EVO's. The EVO's are an excellent sticky street tyre and hold up well on the track. Which makes me wonder how the good the RSR's must be . I know Eddy speaks very highly of them.

The RSRs are sticky! Years ago the guys from the Motor Magazine were doing a tyre test at Eastern Creek, and the RS-R was one of the tyres they were testing. I was a rep for one of the other brands in the test so I spent a couple of hours there. RS-Rs absolutely kicked arse in the dry. Nothing could touch them!

They only do a 205/45R16. I haven't checked stock but the price would be the same as the 17s - $189 fitted.

My sentiments exactly. The EVO's are plenty for me on the street.
I still like to be able to make it break traction if I want, but I really have to try with the EVO's...
I would like to try the RSR's after I flog the EVO's out. I thought the RSR's would be worse in the wet, but turns out that's completely unfounded...

                      Hoyhoy.

Jason why not try the RSR's in 205/50/16's, me like emm & not too bad in the wet.
They fill up the guards better than stocky tyres, plus give ya that softer ride you were after.
Plus with the higher side wall they should help on the 1/4, they grip well.(Drop the pressure.)
                      Hooroo.

brother in law got yoko s drives on his xr5. he used to have goodyears on it (but not sure which ones) . the change was bloody huge, the yokos are bloody grippy compared to old rubber and seem to be pretty good in the wet and dry.
i still have marangonis zetas on my gti, and prob got another 10000kms left on them. so when the time comes i reckon i'll go yokos for the price - just checked ozzytyres and they are at 172 each.
