Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Polo GTI - Boost Gauge Wiring

Hi all, this is my first post in this forum Been reading old threads, there is some very informative info and knowledgeable members.

Today I decided to install a boost gauge in my GTI, it all went smoothly after a few searches on the forum, however I've had some trouble with the wiring for the lighting. I know how to remove the headlight switch but I'm unsure which wires I should tap into so the gauge lighting will work with the rest of the instrument cluster. Any help or advice would be appreciated.

    Thanks,
    hail10

i just hooked mine up too.
use the stereo cable for pos+ power, ground from underneath of the top centre tray on the dash.
and illum i use the cable from ciga light. remove the two screw and lift the centre plastic panel up to gain access to the cables.
    good luck

Can highly recommend one of our own ... Jimmymac on this forum (in Bris). (He's looking after my 'baby' while I'm in NZ.)

Of course ... that doesn't really help our Sth African friend.

Thanks alot for all the help guys, I do appreciate it. Finally finished the install today and its working perfectly. I'm very pleased with it. Was easier than I expected, thanks to the good guidance. I'm glad I did it myself, it helps to learn a few things about the car as well as gives a sense of satisfaction with a job well done.

              Regards,

i ran mine through the rubber stopper on the side, near the door hinge.
                    steps:
                    1. remove front left wheel
                    2. un-screw plastic wheel acrh cover
                    3. un-screw & remove another plactic cover near door hinge
                    4. run the cable thru the front of left fender near the headlight (in the engine bay), thru the wheel arch.

                    hope this will help

The BOV line is strange... it seems to flick the gauge extremely fast. I put mine basically straight off the manifold... the gauge moves alot slower, not so slow that it is lagging, but it doesn't snap back and forward, prefer it that way.

                        Something to consider.

hey guys. i'm currently trying to install my boost gauge.

does anyone know where abouts the gromet in the passenger footwell leads to? i've threaded some nylon tube through it but just can't seem to locate it in the engine bay. any help much appreciated.

i use the front left side fender instead.

remove the wheel, and the plastic bit on the arch and the one adjacent to the door.

                              only 15 mins job.
