Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

I was led to believe that the 1.8T needs air recirculated back into the system, so a straight forward BOV wouldn't work. The forge splitter overcomes this by sending some air back in. Happy to be corrected if I'm wrong. I've never known any local Polo owners to go the splitter route, almost everyone goes either the 007/008 or the APR R1

Ryan, you should try a pod filter with the 008 valve, man it's f'in loud so loud im thinking of moving to an enclosed cai as its nuts.

Yeah it's f***ing loud, huh? I've gone to a BMC DIA (kind of like the mod shack VTDA) which is marginally better but still noisy. Need some 4" ducting so I can fully enclose it and run air from the front fog and it should hopefully really quieten it a bit.

Had the splitter, diverting - had a decent dump sound. When set to partial blow off, it's an air sound more than a squeak or trill. Now 008, with stock box you can hear it, seems more responsive. 008 and the pod setup was so vocal, nice if your boosting hard, but overkill when you spool and dump rolling around the neighbourhood with no real speed. Feels Ricey.
I'm running the 008 backwards, no real dump noise, but acts more like a diaphragm setup. Boost does nothing, piston activated by vac line only.

          Go the 008

Jason, if you have bypassed the 249, try the 008 backwards, for me it's a lot quieter. Use the softest spring.

            Hi folks.

Any hints on getting the stock DV out? Mine is refusing to budge. I've been searching through the threads as I thought there may have been a guide somewhere but haven't found it.

            Cheers,

            -Phil.

All good. Just needed to man up.

Car felt good on my short test drive.. can't really hear the valve, but I do still have the stock air box.

yeah, my stock DV was a bi@tch to get off too, especially the spring clamps on the inlet and outlet, and I didn't have the right pliers for the job, ended up using brute force....

I couldn't hear my new DV (APR R1) with the PD160 and K&N panel, I only started to hear it after I got the APR Stage 1 tune... but it is still not loud enough, going to copy noone's design and do a pod-in-a-box setup....
