Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Forge DV008 + Seat PD160

I recently had my car chipped through GIAC but I'm starting to get itchy feet and i need more powerrrrrr. So i've just ordered the Forge 008 diverter valve and Seat PD-160. Simple question, what kind of a power gain can i expect from these two additional mods? Those who have a similar setup whats your KW output, ATW?

    Cheers

Nothing to be gained from the dv unless yours is shot, you can log that with vcds. A couple of kw from the intake. A downpipe is the next power making mod.

As Gav said not much as far as power gains.

However the change in where the power is delivered is very noticeable. First thing to do is see what your peak boost levels are and change to the correctly rated spring in the Forge DV. I picked up 13hp atw from that alone, same dyno. It will also hold peak boost longer as well as not run out of puff in the top end by adding the Seat intake.

Next step for considerable gains as Gav said is DP plus FMIC and tune.

Thanks guys. Trying to get the cost effective power mods done first. From the chip, intake and dv is it fair to expect around 125atw?

I think GIAC is a fairly aggressive tune with more on the high end of all the tunes as far as peak boost is concerned. So I would safely say 130+.

I've always liked the idea of being able to tune the piston BOV's via the springs.
How would this compare with the diaphragm APR versions, obviously no interchangeable innards...

On topic, my BOV was checked and A-OK but changing to the R1 made a huge difference. After fitting it boosted muchhh harder, seems to have settled a bit now though.

Haha glad I could be an inspiration. Makes me feel a little better about dropping nearly $200 on something so small! Thanks for everyone's replies. Would be stoked to get over 130atw on a dyno.. Will have to get it dyno'd

The diaphragm ones are supposed to be quicker and able to hold more boost. In the Spring resistance design, the boost force coupled with the vac from the manifold are enough to move the spring. Too much resistance and it does not open enough, so can have issues when tuned for high boost but only using medium boost.

Some diaphragm ones are known for beng noisy (farting) or failing. The spring ones act slower due to the added weight and resistance.

Yet to hear from someone who does not like the 008.

I've got that exact setup on the car atm. It seems to run good, nothing to complain about. I had the 008 installed before the chip but my butt dyno couldn't feel any difference the 008 had on stock.

What was the result on the dyno?

Sorry to interrupt - but has anyone got the Forge Splitter Valve over the DV008 - that was the route I was gonna take.

Sorry, I've never dyno-ed. But I'll prob do one when I get my tax return back.

I did have the Slitter, but then went with the 007. I found that 007 was louder.

Ahh no way - that's why I wanted the splitter, I'm a sucker for the BO sound, but I don't want to lose performance by getting a BOV.
