$717 for 2 Year Service

Can you guys tell me what you paid for a 2 Year service?

Even if I didn't get ripped off, would be useful to have a point of comparison because everyone I told was shocked at the $717 service..

I think I paid about $250 for my 30k km service from Camden GTI back in Dec 09. I'll have to go back through my receipts, but I'm pretty sure it was around that price.

It depends on what some places do, though. This I can't stress enough.

Miss_GTI, I'd suggest taking your invoice with you, and speaking to other dealerships and a few independants. Ask them what they'd charge for the exact same thing.

Those labour times are from Volkswage themselves.

The labour time for brake fluid is bang-on, if you use their pnuematic filler unit.

The labour times for the pollen and air filters are linient, as some cars like the New Beetle can be a real cow to do either, at times.

Metro dealerships are known to have a higher labour rate, but some rural dealerships know how to charge, too.

At the end of the day, you buy a Volkswagen, you pay Volkswagen prices. You buy an appliance like a new Lancer, it's $195 up to 60,000klms.

Then $110 for 0.3 hours use of a mechanic & filler machine is usurous.

And please, VWs are appliances too. Ask any German.

I did actually ask about pricing when I called up to book it. They said around $500ish...

but seriously. shop around. they will all be different. Use an independant if you can, just ask about the oils etc that they are using.

The listed prices are reasonable, I just don't understand some of them (ie what they actually did).

I change my own oil, filters, consumables well before the service schedule, cheap as and I know the specific elements in my car.

A pretty shop has lots of overheads to pay for, how can they not charge more...

Please, brad check your prices, make sure that they're current, I don't remember ever paying $20 for the cabin filter and I get the trade price or better.
Not everyone will get your heavily haggled prices and alienate their dealer at the process of that.

..and before anyone jumps in and bring the ebay purchases into the discussion; I’ve just wasted some money on ebay for 6 filters that seller claimed were the genuine and of course were packed in the VW boxes (only glued differently) that look exactly the same as these that I buy from my supplier, but the quality of the filters is far from the original. I will only say that they came from UK and many people here use that place.

I paid $570 for my 30k service at Camberwell VW in Doncaster just last week, was considerably expensive yet I got a loan car and their service is top notch, was actually expecting around the $450 mark, will go elsewhere when my warranties up.

That is quite pricey, I paid less than $500 for the 30k on the 118tsi with DSG.

Good to see such a great forum! Love it.

In reference to your $717 service, I asked my local VW dealer in Deer Park the cost of a 60k service. Told me to come in, sit down, do I want a coffee or tea. I said no..politely knowing then that I wasn't going to like the price they were going to give me. $750 or so came back the answer...and then he continues to go into justifying it.

Taking nothing away from the mechanics, the service guy did tell me that particular VW was owner by the Holden down the road with much the same people coming over to work. BE BAAWW...wrong answer my friend.

Asked a mate BbFlat (on here) about options and he recommended Volkewerke in Greensborough.
Hit them up for a quote and came back almost half price with a courtesy car.

If you don't need to feel 'special' about owning a VW and just want to pay for the work and parts, not the clean polished floors, coffee and bull**** from swindling sales people...find a reputable independent.

Further, Volkwerke were a good reference for discussing firming up the ride and removing the stock sway...something the local VW guy had no info on.

My boss once said you get what you pay for. You just have to decide 'what' it is you want to pay for and what you don't need.

$350 saved, I had an amazing dinner in town.

That's a joke, mind you I had VW Springwood try and sting me $440 (without doing Discs) to replace the rear brakes on the Polo. Note that the issue was a seized caliper which the idiot at the Service Centre couldn't even diagnose.

Half of the staff in the service centres shouldn't be allowed to service a 202 Holden Engine let alone anything newer.

Agreed, if I thought I was going to get service above and beyond a normal shop, that they would proactively find issues that I wasn't aware of, make me aware of future consumables, etc, I would seriously think about going back.

Reading about some of the horror stories of service pricing, replacement parts and even big ticket items not covered by warranty or just out of warranty, I cant see that I will ever own a newer VW than what I have now, well nothing with fancy engines, DSG, etc. I have better ways to spend my thousands.
