  • Considering Polo GTI

OK now perhaps you might say I have too many GTI's already but im getting a lease car that will do a fair few kms per year (approx 30,000kms). Im biased in a major way towards VW's but want to attempt to keep my options open.

Want a small car...safety features are more important than size...performance...the other that seems to poke out is the Pug 207 XT but i dont know much about them.

I realise where i am , but I assume some of you guys looked at other cars too so am asking for some advice

    Cheers

    Less talking and more buying!!!!!...

    Polo number 1!!!!!!

ok i a biased, but they are the best all rounder in the field.

XR4 - interior not as good
Peugeot - NO COMMENT...(their reliability) and their interior!? its worst then a kai
suzuki - swift sport - N/A peaky power, essentially the same price as the polo.
    clio - too old

Polo - turbo = easy power mod
    6 airbag + ESP = safety
    exhaust sound = OMG......
    turbo whining up = Drool.....

Can't speak of the Pug except all reviews I've read are that they are not what they should be.

I drove Ralliart Colt, XR4, SP23, Swift Sport in a variety of conditions at least twice each before choosing Polo.

Polo is definately the best all rounder with all the extras you could want and some character.

XR4 is a great go kart but you quickly tire of it.

Ralliart goes and handles (to a point) but ultimately feels like a hotted up cheap car.

SP23 is very, very Adult - I'm sure it's quick at some level but bland

Poor old Swift (I owned and loved the original Gti) is not what it should be.

For 26,990 I cant see how you would go past it.

Polo is easily the pick of the current crop.

It's not the perfect Hot Hatch - not as hard core as i would like - but it really grows on you in standard form and loosens up with 5 - 10,000kms.

And if you want to, plenty of scope to make some relatively inexpensive mods that transform it.

I'm doing 1000kms a week and it is a perfect choice. Anyhting else would have been compromised (except for sp23 but wheres the fun, wheres the character!!!!).

Good Feedback..thanks guys..im going to go for a test drive in the next couple of days...hoping that will do it for me

Im not that fussed on colours (perhaps not silver) and options so hopefully there should be one available somewhere.

So went and test drive one today...VERY impressive!!!!

Great power delivery, comfortable ride, nice gearbox (clutch a little light but suits the car)...felt very at home

            Now for price....

            Shadow Blue
            Metalic Paint
            NO Leather
            NO Roof

            $31,500

Im thinking a bit lower than that....

            thoughts?

i think you might be able to screw 28 out of some dealer quite easily... free onroads. 31,500 is retail... no-one pays retail

Yeah i agree....seems too high for my liking. I think if i can get it around 30 ill be happy, the lease company is phoning around for a better price elsewhere so will see what happens.

                  Cheers dudes!!

That's a rip-off, I paid $32ish for my white with Leather the same time as Flaps.

I paid $26,990 including all on roads for a standard car in August. Plated Mar 07. Told them I would come in and sign a contract that day if they also included a free window tint, which they did.

I believe other members have done similar deals.

A lot lower, same spec as you I paid $29k and to be honest I think I paid a bit too much in.... You should bring it down to about $28k especially now there is more competition with the XR4.

Just wondering if that price was from your local dealer? Had no experience with that dealer but lived up there for a long time until recently and found all the dealers up there to be .........shall we say.......uncompetitive.

Best approach is always to know what the market price is (the guys have given you some good info), have a price in mind and let the dealer know you are prepared to sign a contract on the spot.....but only at the price you are comfortable with. Make him think that if he doesn't sign you up he will not get a second chance.

                            Cheers

Yep totally agree George, i dont know how much they will budge (never bought from them before) but I wont be losing sleep over it, will just go elsewhere. I have the figure in my mind and wont be going any higher.

It certianly isnt even close to $31,500
