  • Tyres recommendations

Looking for some good 16 inch tyres to replace the original Conti's.
I am after reasonable grip and decent life. I don't want them wearing too quickly.
I mainly do commuting but I like the occassional "spirited" drive.
    Any recommendations and prices?
    Cheers.

They very first Sticky, 'The Official Polo Tyre Thread', at the very top of the 9N/9N3 Polo page, covers these questions...

No more than $800 for the set fitted.

I just fitted Kumho KU31s yesterday to replace the original Conti's. $120 per corner.

Did a lot of research and decided to go with these as most have stated they are great value for money and compare more than favorably to other tyres that cost $200+.

Only done 40km on them so far so still settling in. But the sidewall looks much better, tyres no longer look flat when parked on an angle. They feel good, pretty quiet.

Will let you know how they are going in a few weeks.

Thanks mate. After doing some reading, they seem like the ones to go for. Keep me updated.

I've got the KU31's, got em from option 1, they're the cheapest spot to get em from in Brisbane. They're ok as a street tyre with performance capability. Not a true performance tyre but good for 90% of the time (assuming the other 10% you're driving like you stole it - in which case you're mainly grateful they only cost about $100 a corner ).

I got the Goodyear F1 Eagles when I replaced the Conti's on my old Polo GTI.
I had always wanted them, and they were on special at the time, so got 4 for the price of 3. They're quite expensive though, but they looked mint.

I have always heard good things about the KU31's though, and they were the other tyre on my shortlist at that time.
I think they would def be a great balance of price and performance....

You can do better than KU31, but from what I saw, you have to spend a bit more.

IMO they don't like track days.

They rate highly on one of the big American tyre websites, not sure why they can be had so cheap at some places.

So what is your recommendation, noone?
And what is a set of Eagle F1's worth T Go?

At the time they were $300/tyre without the 4 for price of 3 deal

That is way more than I wanted to spend but thanks for the info.

I'm not sure. I have the Ku31's, awesome for what they cost me ($440 a set balanced and fitted), but for double that you'd have to prowl for a bargain on a much better tyre I think. Lots of recommendations in the tyre sticky.

I'm pretty set on the KU31's. They seem like great value.
