  • Tyre Pressure

    Hey Guys,

I was just wondering if anyone can confirm the stock tyre pressure?
The fuel lid says 2.6bar, but my local servos air pump does not have bar readings, so i have done an online conversion, which is saying 37psi.
    Does this sound right?

    Cheers,
    josh

I find with the stock continentals running them harder gives you more grip. I think this happens because the sidewalls are paper thin, so they squirm a bit.

Other tyres might be different, but I've just found with mine the grip peaks at 41-42 psi.

I run the 'unladen' settings, which I believe equate to 38psi front, and 36psi rear. I'm willing to be corrected on this - although I find that if I go any higher, the ride starts deteriorating a fair bit.

hey guys - resurrected this thread as im unsure what the tyre pressure should be on the polo.. Opened up the petrol flap to have a look and thats just a bunch of mumbo jumbo to me..

Any suggestions as to what psi the tyres should be for everyday driving.. i went and checked them today and they are all over the place..

Do you want comfort or handling? The tyre psi can completely change a car...

For handling put in around 42 at the front and 40 at the rear.
As for comfort, if you want a really comfy ride put in about 32-34 psi all round, even my mk3 with the 10 yo suspension feels great on that psi.
If you want a bit of both put in 38-40 at the front with 36-38 on the rear.

I usually do 44 front and 42 rear, which usually goes down to about 42-40 in a 3-4 weeks anyway...

I tend to run 38 to 40 PSI all round.

Lora, just remember to play with your pressures when the tyres are cold. Once they are warm, the air in the tyres expands, some times at different rates, thus giving you a higher reading, so it is better to do this when the tyres temps are all the same when cold.

yeah i run at approx 38psi all round. it's a good pressure for both comfort and handling. my car certainly does not bounce around the place and my handling is very good....so, i'm happy with it and it's what i'll be sticking to.

in australia, people tend to run their tyre pressure at a bit less than in the fuel cap (on imported cars) due to our climate and the quality of our roads.

The other thing you guys need to remember is tyre wear.

Too little pressure and your tyres will wear on the outside, too much and they wear in the centre. So you have to find a happy medium for that too.

40 up front and 38 rear sounds about right on a polo with those tyres. more in the front because of the weight distribution. .

I'm currently running 35 all round and very happy with the grip. At 40, I felt a little unsafe on roads with tram lines in the wet.
