Yeah they'll probably void your warranty. (Atleast for the engine)

If you can't afford the servicing/insurance then you can't afford the car...

$50 for some oil and 30mins to change it, i'd be happy to help you if you are local.. I do it every ~5000kms on mine and I've got it down to an art.. lol

[But you'll probably want VW / mech to stamp the manual]

        Hello,

I'll take this from 3 angles:

        1) Dont do this, it's dumb. Do it yourself if you have to.

        2) I've blown an engine before but it was about 10000kms overdue, as I was overseas at the time my mother took the car in, and Honda did the rebuild under warranty. If it was me, I would have been up for 4000kms. I will never drive it if I cant afford to service it.(Yes, I have been to uni, many times)

        3) If they void your warranty, it will be worth it. If you cant afford to service, dont drive it, or buy it.

Why did you buy a car that you cant service if your doing Uni? Fair enough, you want drive a nice car, but you've offsetted the reason for buying a new car?

        Matt

Hey Veee, don't take it personally mate.
Its just as enthusiasts it seems a very false economy to pour fuel in the cars after investing sooo much with buying the thing at the start and then let it get at least 1000 kms over. These motors have very fine tolerances and need maintenance.
If it was an M3 BMW, the oil galleries for the top end would be nearly clogged by now and a motor in one of them is a huuuge expense.
You may well have lost any warranty that you had left.
I am not being harsh or having a go at you, I run a VW workshop and when I have people in here that have negleted their service schedule, then I am afraid that sympathy is very slow in coming if they have problems. It is inevitable in kombis to have valve problems these days if the schedule is skipped.
It is a false economy, all the best friend, Andrew

And the VANOS (Variable valve timing) would have died.. I have a friend who did exactly that.. wasn't up for a rebuild but it was down on about 40kw.

                Good grief!

Oil is cheap, so are filters!

If you can't afford this, you can't afford the car.

Mods, please close this thread before I (or someone else) become more...'explicit'

I was told by the dealer that my first service was to be at 15,000km. At 10,000km I noticed the sticker on the window from VW said it was to be serviced at 7,500km. So I gathered they don't know their head from their toe and went and got a service at 10,000km.

what is it with the "student" excuse???? lol
I agree with you here, I'm a student myself and find that appalling! If you can afford a new Polo GTI, you'd do fine with a scheduled service! Then again, I have a ****box and it's 'easier' for it to die on me... at least you'll be worrying about the reliability of the car when you've graduated and have a stable career! Frankly I wouldn't want to be worrying myself about that.

I recently visited the volkswagen.com.au site (website review for a unit of study I'm doing) and the Polo section had the heading "Built to last". I wonder if there's a disclaimer somewhere...

                        Sorry about the slandering

haha its true. i took it in at 7500 and they said they kinda just looked at it and didnt even charge me (mind u not at the dealership)

anyway im a student too and although i havent had any trouble but i know others who have and from what i've seen it seems more like students haven't learnt to organise their financials properly rather than a shortage of income. imo.

Services are overpriced oil changes. The first few are bascially just are oil changes. You get a little more technical later on, 75, 90 etc. but its change oil... and make sure nothing is leaking etc... tick a few boxes, and charge $300 for an oil change. Do it yourself for the price of oil, filter and an hour of your life... tops.
