Don't get me wrong, I have a rather large penis, but I had been looking for this type wheel for over 2 years before I found them. I would have prefered 17x8's, but the came in 18's, and thats the way it is... The ride isn't that bad, and not that different to when I had 17's.

Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled
After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.
Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before.
We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

I definitely wouldn't mind an extra inch and a half.
Mainly because it would make the speedo more accurate - it under reads about 8% at the moment, which is ridiculous.
Unless there are significant weight changes to the wheel/tyre combo, the ride should actually improve (especially around NZ's battle-scarred excuses for roads) as the larger tyre diameter will tend to ride over bumps and holes instead of tending to fall into them.
That is unless the tyre profile is lowered to retain the same diameter, of course.
Personally, I think small wheels look silly. The wheels on the stock Polo look fine, but I've seen them on bigger wheels, and that looks good too.
People who buy Polos (I would think) are not buying it to make penis-size statements.2007 VW Polo GTi, white, standard. First registered in Japan, imported to NZ 2010. Owned since Dec/10. Love at first drive.

Well said guys. I was 3/4 drunk when I sent that post..........
I reckon the the Audi TT wheels are hard to beat - they really look good on a pog. Porsche Twister a close second.
Anyone else cop the girly car thing in road rages with idiots in big 4wd's??????? I always find that amusing. I just laugh in their face. And I'm not a girly looking sort of guy. Like who really honestly believes that their self image is best expressed by their car??

Personally, for 7" wide you want a lower offset, the rims may also rub on the struts or when turning.
Ideally, 7-8 wide, 35ish offset, 205/40 or 215/40 tyre on 17's. This is not a bible, just a guide.
The rims you are looking at sound like they are from a Mk4 or A3/S3... They use a larger circumference.
