Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Will they fit?

    18s on a PoG? With 225/35s?

    Or am I limited to 17 w 215s????

17s are perfect on the polo. Any bigger and it compromises ride quality and comfort. I personally think 18s make the car look cartoonish almost..

I wasn't convinced with 18's on a Polo until I pot them on mine. Mine are 18x8 +35 offset. I am running 215/35 18's and they fit perfectly... Fill out the guards to the millimeter, and look the goods...

They look great but remember the +$200 on tires when ya replace them.

Depends on how low you go.

18's work fine if you don't mind a harsh ride, it's the offset, drop and tyre width you have to get marched up.

18's on stock suspension will look ridiculous...

Tossed up between 18's and 17's and tried both on for size. 18's were too heavy unless you wanted to spend big $, not to mention it looks weird on such a small car. Ended up with 17" Bora sports and couldnt be happier.

                  Thanks people

17s still seem to make best sense...but maybe with 215s rather than the 205s. I quite like the look of the 18s but the ride is probably going to be horrendous with 35 profiles

I have 215/35/17 Adrenalin Re001's on my 17"s. Rides great and room for lowering

I think i could have even gone 225 but didnt want to risk width issues.

I'd rather be a little lower than have another 10mm of tyre...

Hey guys just wondering if i could get a little help on the fitting of some 17" rims and tyres that are for sale. Not sure if they will fit on my completely stock polo gti.

To my knowledge they are ROH, 17x7inch alloy with a +45 offset, the tyres are a 225/45/17 Bridgestone Potenza, RE070 (they are being sold with the tyres and i needed to upgrade from the previous owners nan kangs haha)

Im very noob when it comes to specs/measurements of rims and tyres so any help would be greatly appreciated

I just don't get the big wheel thing. Is it a male penis thing???? Why stick huge wheels under a small car?? To the detriment of performance???? Just silly.
