Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Gear box howl

hey guys for about the last 8 months there has been a howl sound comming from the pasenger side wheel /diff/gearbox only happens 1st and 2nd under hard exceleration.
Does not effect anything feels normal no crunches or anything, but very very slowly get louder.
I too had the cruch problem between 1st and 2nd but has gone away.
    Anyone with the same sound?
I am not keen to try to get a warrenty job after all my probs with my turbo bolts i dout they will do it under warrenty.

I don't know all the history, but that aside, if it's covered by the warranty, even if they have had to rebuilt and replace EVERY OTHER PART on the car so far, screw it, thats what the warranty is there for.

If it's covered, they are bound to fix it by law. period.

If it has an engine or heartbeat it's going to cost you.

They may not let you have another gearbox after the MKIV!

Nah, I am sure it would be covered - get an independent opinion before you take it to the dealer though.
