Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

Perhaps i'm being overly idealistic, but a colleague of mine drives a Nissan 300ZX (1990), now i'm not a big fan of these cars but one thing i'm extremely jealous of is that whenever one 300ZX passes another one the owners acknowledge each other. This is awesome. When ever I drive past/near/next to another GTI there's absolutely nothing, as if they don't even realise what they're driving.
I agree with your point. Coming from a modded GT Forester, when you saw another modded forester there was almost always an acknowledgement. Even with the WRX drivers there was typically a nod, or a traffic light grand prix The age group is much the same, but the "culture" of the groups are vastly different. Attending one of the meets, I do notice the VW crowd is more towards the "denim shorts and deck shoes", than it is the cap backward, surf board on the roof kind of person. All nice people, just different.

This is the whole reason i bought the car, it doesn't get (unwanted) attention but is still fun to drive for those who want to explore some simple mods.

If you wanted a 'status symbol', a small VW hatch isn't exactly what you should have bought ...

              Yeah...
I'm glad that there are so many middle-aged women driving Golf GTI's and Polo GTI's etc.

I'm really annoyed that Subaru's current crop of cars suck so much that there are so many WRX boys coming over and buying Golf's and Polo's now - it risks making us targets of unwelcomed attention (on numerous fronts).

Oh and just a to all you Subaru people who take offense to those comments hehe

Do you live opposite the golf range or somewhere near there? I'm sure I see you around all the time, I think I saw you today
I'm probably one of the silver ones that you wave to, there are a couple of silver ones around Bulleen/Tempy, and a black one or 2 as well.

Tooch, I'm near St. Helena shops, haven't seen any pogs today.
I often visit a mate (clio driver) who lives just near the silo's in Bulleen so i'm spot-able around those woods. Have you run that road down to fitzimmons lane past the massive blocked estate out there? single lane bridge and what not, great bit of road!
Perhaps to satisfy my need for recognition from other gti drivers we can co-ordinate a drive/wave-by one day

N.B. On the day of my original post (and it was bound to happen) I saw a couple of younger guys (and a girl) getting about in their gti's. I stand corrected

Corey I'll agree with you on that one, the lack of attention from the constabulary is great (I had the same level of invisibility with my previous car.......Da**oo ).
I was also considering a Subie before the polo....old man has an outback and the Liberty really takes my fancy (in wagon form of course, gotta put the bikes somewhere).
The middle aged woman who previously owned mine was an ex VW employee so in my mind it maked perfect sense why she owned it, I guess I just haven't considered the back-story to all the other housewives i've seen driving them

Do you mean the road that goes through to Viewbank? I.e. you turn left off Fitz. lane if heading in the Eltham direction? If that's the one you mean, yeah I've travelled it many times . My gf's sister lives in Viewbank so I go that way to their house.

Hey tooch, that's me. I live in that estate opposite the driving range haha. Drive about 750km a week so always going in and out.

To you and bflat, we should meet up sometime. Ive never driven down that area. always wanted to meet up with a few local polo boys to see if my cars 'little quirks' are what the car is supposed to actually be like haha

Should a VIC 9N3 Polo group get organised?
I know 3 GTi owners and another TDi owner that I've cruised with.
