So I finally bit the bullet and went to get a ARP stage 1 ECU reflash. Turbo kicks in a lot earlier and with a lot more force too.
One thing I noticed when I tried to flat change, I went from 1st to 2nd and thought that the gear was in but grinded instead. The sound wasn't pleasant. Have others experienced grinding their gears as well?

On top of that when I went to my ARP dealer to get it reflash, he thought better make sure it's running smoothly. So he told me to jump and I did, he opened the drivers door, he slips and hits the door against some engines he had sitting on the side of his garage. There's about 4 tiny chips just on the edge of the door
He gave me a number of a guy that will fix it and that he'd pick up the bill I know it was an accident nevertheless my Pog has been damged
    Current:

    2015 Mk7 Golf R Wolfsburg - Limestone Grey: Stage 2
Gone but not forgotten: 2008 Polo GTI Shadow Blue

      Bugger about the paint

Not so sure on the flat shifting though - an awful lot more torque trying to go through those gears now - I never flat shifted my Polo so I cant comment.

You mean dropping it into gear at full revs? No thanks... With the power band down low (by I have APR V2) I don't see the need. I think that using your clutch like that should kill it pretty quick. From what i hear the gearbox should be fine (dont quote me on that). I find with my gearbox you need to do a little Rev matching, but I'm using standard gearbox oil, you might find going to a better quality oil helps with your hard changes.

Also, the Polo's intercooler will heatsoak pretty quickly, so I tend to save my power bursts for when i need them and run lower revs to keep the turbo cooler (no idea if this actually works...) And this is until i get a FMIC.

I might have to be a little bit more precious with the gearbox from now on. It's so hard not to drive like a maniac with so much power, even if it's only ~200bhp it's still quite a lot. Even drive normally and shifting around 2k it just wants to launch.

            completely understand.

            don't underestimate your supporting mods;
Seat intake and dump pipe, set you back from $500 but get you a few more horses and more breathing for the engine.

new bushes and front strut brace help keep the wheels down with the option of sways and springs / coilovers for full ability.

            Enjoy.

i have had the APR tune for about 6 months now and never experienced a crunch before or after the tune, i dont smash it into second though. (not saying you do just commenting on how i drive) or flat shift, easy way to kill the apparently weak stock clutch.

also i can vouch for supporting mods. the seat intake/bmc filter seemed to have minimal if any effect on power however the induction noise is awesome with those two mods.

nope no crunches here either then again i do baby the clutch a lil. think ive only done about 2 or 3 launches. admitedly i know exactly how you feel with first gear , first few days i had her i must have looked a right tool at the traffic lights, i was trying not to look like a boy racer but i kept half launching by accident.

Not blaming the tune at all, I was just referring to the gearbox. I didn't really "smash" into 2nd. It was more a quick shift and thought that the gear was in but obivously not according to the grinding noise. I just have to learn to be gentle with the gearbox and clutch from now on.

I agree with the supporting mods, next will be the down pipe, seat intake, rear control arm bushes, forge tip and rear sway bar.

                      .

You know that's exactly what I was thinking! I'll definitely have to book the car in next week to get this done.

Don't forget about from the FMIC and Front strut brace! Front strut brace makes a big difference, with your tune and Summer here, the FMIC is a good investment, but not cheap...

I'll have my H&R springs available soon (done <10,000 kms) if you wanted to tighten up the handling.

Changing the springs to the H&R's improves the handling, but not changing the shocks leaves something to be desired... Thats what happens when you spend 300-500 on the hardware rather than 1000-2000...

I got the same problem before, just go get 2L of vw gear box oil and replace you old oil!

Gear box oil cost you less the 9 bucks each and about half and hour labour.
