having driven both Shane's and Anthony's (VWindahouse) cars I can vouch for the tractability of both with such tunes and mods. Personally the clutch in Shanes car at the time (was recently fitted) would be a chore to drive IMO - but power was excetionally smooth and controllable. Torque steer suprisingly was not evident. If anything, my stock car has more torque steer - could be due to the soft standard bushes or Conti tyres and the numerous suss wheel alignments I've had.

Anthony's seemed to be more spritely than Shane (could just be the differences in the clutches, Anthony's being stock at the moment so I felt comfortable pulling power through gear shifts), yet again in the dry conditions I drove, would be an absolute hoot to drive with enthusiasm and yet capable to drive in traffic. Torque steer no issue, grip very good when balanced between bite and a bit of spin to keep it boosted.

Too much power??? Not at all with the supporting mods on each of these cars. As long it as you're not a foot to the floor kind of driver than you'll love it when the mood strikes. More tractable than say a modded subaru when they come on boost - quite different delivery actually.

Just a quick one on the clutch ( which was fitted nearly a yr ago) there is no actual problem with the clutch per se , but since we have came up with sensible cure which reqs finger profiling, to raise the bite height of the clutch. This has been done recently and has been fitted to a Pog ( very recently) and we await some feedback on that. I for one agree Shanes Clutch "bite" is low but is a HD clutch and nowhere near OEM. i fitted both Shanes and the latest one and there is a huge difference between the 2, and the kit is the same , only the fingers doctored. Progressive pedal now and not the on and off that was once experienced. I would recommend it highly, minus the OEM feel, depends what you want at the end of the day.

Thanks for clarifying Jimmy. I also didn't want to risk missing gears in someone elses car so was particularly mindful of the shift and also won't belt another persons car to redline.

I wouldn't have believed the tractability of a polo pushing 140kw through the front tyres without having had 1st hand experience, yet with the appropriate supporting mods, it's entirely realistic to do it in a daily driver if that's your thing. Has a similar feel to standard power delivery, just more.

But can someone confirm what the difference is in the upgrades(parts, power), ie stage 1, 2 etc? - hope that made sense.
APR Stage 1 is software only, there are just over 300 Polo's running it around the country at the moment.

Have have a "Version 2" which is stronger down low, but a little less up top - which a huge number of our customers love around town because of its "punchier" feel.

We also have a software version that allows for a high flow catalyst & coupled with our downpipe (or full exhaust) customers see an additional 7 - 9kw @ the wheels.

Next step in the line is our K04 upgrade - we have 20 odd of these in the field & we used one for a long time in our Tarmac Rally Polo GTI (several class wins too!)

Thought we would honor our poor little Polo with a fresh thread: A list of the mods our little baby has had so far: APR K04, software flash, EMCS switching system (including race gas program) High flow transverse manifold Modified intake pipe (39% better flow) Billet steel flywheel & EVO ceramic clutch setup BMC CDA

The K04 kit only requires the Turbo & Fuel pressure regulator (Injectors are plenty large) and will benefit from a downpipe / exhaust & front mount intercooler.

Cost for the APR software (Which includes two programs so you can switch back to stock for servicing) is $1400 all up.

Since you are in ACT, It can be installed in about 30 minutes for you at the Canberra VW centre in Belconnen - Peter there is a VW expert & can carry out all your log book servicing as well.

Oh, there is a 6 hour free trial - pop in & try it - try before you buy

I didn't like the power delivery of my S3 when I got it. That had APR installed, C-C phase 1 is much more drivable. The boost came in too hard for my liking and as a result made it a chore to drive in traffic. Which is where it spends most of it's life unfortunately.

Disclaimer...... I am the only one that has driven the car with both tunes and therefore the only one that can make that assessment.

              Gavin
Do you have any dyno's or evidence to show the difference in boost curves between the APR software you "didn't like the power delivery " of & the product you sell? Of the several hundred S3's we have done I have never had that complaint before. If you check out www.ozaudi.com you will find most people rave about how APR is "Factory Smooth".

I have driven a lot of different cars with different software on board & would not comment in this manner (especially as I sell one of the products) without evidence to back it up.

If you would like a head to head comparison on an S3 (or any other car) with Data & independent drive tests, I'll be happy to help you arrange it.

I'm down for that challange Gavin and I were both present at the last Dyno in Brisbane. I am far from any sort of expert but what I did see from having two printed Dyno charts one in each hand from two Polo's that were dynoed back to back and the custom code curves were a completely smooth line, where as the APR polo was a jaggered line right the way through. What does this mean?

Remember I know next to nothing compared to both Gavin and Guy so lamens is appreciated!

We already ran a Polo dyno day up here with about 7 polo's on the same dyno, same day - no one had "jagged curves".

Post up the plots (with the raw data as well) and we can try to look at them for you.

Lets get a stock Polo & compare the tunes again if you wish. As far as I understand the OP was asking about the difference between stage 1 / 2 etc. Seeming Gavin made a direct comparison to APR I responded & asked for the data to back it up.

P.S. - I was not at the last dyno day, but I understand the APR people were very happy with their software.

not to start another chip war (beacuase im pretty sure ever one is over those ) but personally after having a apr flash ive never had any hiccups , its been very smooth infact , not that i have any dynos to back it up or for that mater a differant tune to compare. but id seriously like to see the same car with differant software on the same day (not sure if thats possable) just to compare from a interest point of view, itd be interesting to see how each company specifically tune there engines. by all means guys could you please post some dyno results (without losing this thread y is better then x)

                    cheers

I was at the last dyno and there was couple of Polos with different re maps there mate, its more than possible as there is a few Polos getting around with different tunes now. The 3 that i know of all got printouts that day and would be good as you say to see them posted here. By the sounds Mike you are already happy mate, your seat dyno is doing the trick for you , thats where i get my fun too.

That was an opinion Guy that's all. I am sure they haven't been legislated against yet.

I would suggest you try to answer the original posters question instead of referring to a different model car & your opinion on a competitors software (in an attempt to make your product look better).

I have lots of opinions on lots of products, but it's not relevant to this post at all.

I take your point but felt that my reference to the S3 was valid, in that tuners write their software differently and that these differences may or may not suit the way people drive.

This was not to knock APR, as I like to think I am pretty careful about doing that sort of thing, usually.

Thanks Guy, I spoke to Peter yesterday and am really keen on hitting up the ECU reflash. I have to try to hold myself back in spending all this money, I've only had the car for a week and half and I'm already spending money that I don't have

                              Modding is so addictive...
