one of my aircon lines popped as i started the car the other day. Havent had a chance to get it sorted yet. Was weird. The hose just split all on its own and there was a big rush of what i first thought was steam. Thank goodness it wasnt coolant cos i didnt fancy walking home in the heat!

yeah it will/should get colder on recirc as it's cooling the cold air. I very rarely use recirc though, better to get (air con'd) fresh air rather than the air you've been breathing IMO. I'd only use it in dusty or smelly (outside cabin) conditions.

Plus, weirdly my old subaru was colder on direct air than recirc so got into the habit of never using it.

I also prefer to avoid recirc (stale air makes me get drowsy), but if it is stinking hot outside (ie 43C plus), recirc will cool the cabin down more (I really miss my Landcruiser A/c, it was so much more powerful than the VW and Skoda a/c systems when it is really hot).

Wow mate, ive only had this happen on one VW and it was a Sharan back home. The condensor fan failed to come on and it over pressurised and blew the lines. This shouldnt happen on your car bud it has a low and high pressure switch that cuts it off if this were the case, Sharan did too but guess what the relaythat controlled that was dislodged from factory so even the fail safe never worked.
Let us know what it was , keen to know.

I wouldn't describe my aircon as icy cold at any speed. It struggles around 35 outside to cool the car. Its got alot better since I got tint, but i think it falls short of every other car I've owned, def the pog's weakness, not sure if it carries through the vw range... euros don't need good aircon.
