  • GTI Air Con Drama...Again

Booked into dealership on Tues for second AC appointment - stopped blowing cold air again.

    anyone else had this problem?

2nd time its in for it...car is 15 months old...shouldn't be happening i would think?

any thoughts on what it could be...last time they just checked levels and 'topped up'

my aircon didnt work 6 months after purchase or there abouts, i think the compressors are dodgy on the AC, look in the problems and fix thread and i think u will find a few AC compressor replacements.

I complained about the temperature selection dial not functioning properly at my last service. Sometimes it would be turned all the way to cold but it would still blow out warm air. You would have to turn the dial all the way to hot, wait 1 second then turn it back to cold and it seemed to work.

When I got the car back afterthe service they told me the air-con had too much gas. So they drained it and regassed withe correct amount (675 grams from memory).

The thing is that was not my complaint but ever since then it seems to work just fine.

I had mine dump its refrigerant in the first week of owning the car.
I took it back and had the T/X valve and Evaporator replaced under warranty, and havn't had the issue since.
Get them to look with a Sniffer(a device that detects Refrigerants leaks) in the drivers foot well if they can't find any dye leaks. This is the side the A/C is on, and the Refrigerant is heavier than air, so it congregates in this area.

Mine is booked in for 3rd air cond problem... same thing about the warm air... some thing about the compressor and same thing about the TX valve

F*%king frustrating that they can't fix a simple problem, if I did the same thing in my job I would get fired!!!

            thanks for the info

so it could be t/x valve, refrigerator or compressor or combination of those parts?

i don't wanna go back again for this issue so want to give the goons some info when dropping it off

Refrigerent is the what is in the system that allows for cooling. Rerigeration is the byproduct of all the things in the system working together.

With my car the problem was an O ring between the T/X Valve and the Evaporator not sealing properly and allowing the Refrigerent to leak out.

I reckon they have pinched a seal when they fitted your compressor or worse used the same o rings, yes i know you shouldnt but, well wont go there.

My AC compressor needed replacing within the first few months of owning the car. Only problem was it failed around xmas and couldn't be replaced until late Jan

Made for a very hot summer.
                    Cheers,

                    John

Turns out the Brainiacs filled it with ~780g of refrigerant when they replaced the compressor which was causing the system to trip out on high pressure... Refilled to factory level of 550g (which is clearly stated ABOVE THE FILL POINT) and the A/C is now icy cold... On fan speeds 2,3 and 4!!! I was thinking "that's odd, Speed 1 worked fine this morning"

Took it straight back and they said I need to replace the fan speed resistor. They wanted me to book it in again but I told them not to worry and just order the part... I'll take my chances installing as I believe I will have just as much chance of f%*king it up as they will

Not very happy at the moment!!!!

well...i was told i would get my car back yesterday but they decided to keep it overnight as they 'found the leak'

will collect at lunch or after work...

dealership better get it right this time!

                            got it back today...

"condenser replaced and the related seals"

sending me paperwork in mail (long story but im cool with it) so will provide more detailed update when i get that in a week or so

                            definitely cold again...im happy

plus i asked em to clean it and they did an excellent job - inside and out!!!

Question: If i want to maximise the coldness in the car, should i operate on Recirc?

What do you guys do & what do you believe the right thing to do?
