As for fitting you will need 12 new bolts, 2 control arm bolts, 4 steer rack bolts and 6 ball joint bolts, all torque to yield and need to be replaced, i change the bolts for less than $30 Well worth it as ive had one Gti lately with a loose control arm bolt. My opinion they are a must so please factor them in, if you are taking them some where to be done pm me for part numbers.
To answer the bush install, yes you really need a press. You can do it in place , first couple i did in place very difficult. Press them in for the win.
A wheel alignment is also req afterwards.
Pm me for torque settings for the torque to yield bolts too, being torque to yield the torque settings must be right too.
If you are pondering a sway bar upgrade now would be the time to do the bushes with the subframe out, at the same time do the dogbone, and to be honest if you are pondering susp upgrade leave it all to then. If the subframe is dropped it really helps when doing the sups as the right hand driveshaft hits the subframe and can be a pain when installing.
    Cheers

youll here from me soon jimmy orange tuning have finally pulled there finger out and my sway bars have arived.

I should take a few pics of my bushes. I could nearly guarantee they would be by far the worst anyones ever seen. I dont think there is even any bush left.

                  crossmember bushs

                  Hi there Gents,

Just a question to those that have changed and used after market bushes, i have a Polo Tdi that is heading for a second set of bushes, i managed to get an old set from the dealer (the whole ali brace that hold the bushes) that was replaced under warranty. I noticed that the rubber bush has a hex shape hole, now does the after market rubbers also have this shape hole or is it ok to just have a round hole? The guys that made the bushed for me moulded them in but did not make a hex hole...any input will help me loads. Hope im making sense?

The Solid Seat bushes have the hex mate and have to be pressed in exactly the same or you will have premature wear, at the same time before the main control arm bolts are tightened the vehicle must be pressed ( all weight resting as it naturally would be on the ground) if you torque them up whist jack up this will again cause premature wear, this goes for any control arm. It only natural if the bush is tightened in the air it will want to twist the application when vehicle is lowered, its pretty much a golden rule.
                    Cheers

Thanks for fitting these to the car on Friday J-Mac...

The extra feedback through the wheel is very noticable and the car seems to want to turn in with less hesitation.. Power down traction is another area that seems to have been improved.

Now... I need to go an order that RSB

                        Torque settings

Hi Jmac, do you have the Torque settings for the bolts on the crossmember?

If you do that would help

Yes mate. Please renew them as well. As follows the 6 ball joint bolts are 20nm then 90degress angle torque, Steer rack bolts are 50NM then 90 degrees, Subframe x 4 are 70Nm then 90 degrees, and the 2 long control arm bolts are 70Nm then 90 degrees. Hope this helps mate.

Well I fitted new tyres this weekend, and found out that my right side tierod end and rod end are gone!
Is this the same thing? Maybe we use different names here in SA…
But getting it fixed in the next month or so it didn’t look that bad… rod end was a bit bent..
