Yeh, I put it on myself...Its a bit of a PITA, and I wouldn't do it if I didn't know what I was doing.

              Here is the write up...

Similar, but I think one or 2 of the ancillary pipes are different.

This is APR's TIP off the ECS Site for the MK4 GTI...

I have seen this particular item in the flesh, and although it is very similar to the Polo GTI TIP, I think one of the outlet points is missing from the APR MK4 TIP item, and i think one of the outlets are a different size.
Personally, I think you are better off buying off the Forge site. I think this is where you will get the product that is known to fit your car, and you cut out a mark up from the middle man.
Also talk to Guy Harding, as he sells the APR TIP, and knows both the Polo and MK4 Golf GTI's.
Both items are going to be a similar price once they are shipped, but I know for a fact that the Forge one fits.
                      Up to you though.

nope not the same . its a pain to get in but i wouldnt consider myself a very mechanically minded person but i did it. the most dificult part is losening the bolt for the bracket that holds (i think its water) the pipe onto the side of the engine block its not so dificult getting it off but getting it back on can be a pain. you may also notice when you do finally get it all on that this tube will partially kink the tip a lil bit. some have left it be, others have slightly bent the black water pipe so it doesnt kink it (your choice)the risk is really up to you, i dont think anyone has reported anything detramental to just leaving it be. if you do run into trouble quite a few of us have done the tip ourselves and we may be able to help.

                            TIP review

I installed my TIP and Throttle Body hose yesterday, went for a drive today and thought I'd do a little write up on my thoughts.

                            Install:
Complete PITA. If you are not confident, pay someone else to do it. It took me about 4 hours all up, I was exhausted afterwards. Blitzens writeup is very helpful.

                            Testing:
Before I start telling you what I think, its important to note that I have already done some intake mods and have a 2.5" dump pipe fitted. These findings will be very different on cars without this level of airflow improvement.

I'm running APR Stage 1, V2 tune. The more I read about different tuning, the more differences I find in the effects of mods. Different tunes may bring out the best or make little difference with this mod.

                            Noise:
There is more turbo spool noise. Its not a massive change, but is noticeable.

                            Power delivery:
The turbo seems to spool more easily when the boost is coming on. 1st gear I didn't really play with as its too short. 2nd gear feels like the boost comes on at lower revs, making low RPM gear changes more fluid and less lacking in power. 3,4&5th gear feel much nicer. I note that I am more comforable to leave the car in a gear at lower revs (below 2.7k) as there is more power there than before.

I have not dyno'd my car, but feel more power is available at lower revs. For my style of driving (medium revs) the Power is comfortable and the power delivery suits the car.

I can't say much on the top end (redline) RPM. Others have commented it helps, but the v2 tune does not suit this sort of RPM as well as other tunes (even the v1 tune) and I don't drive my car with high RPM so can't comment.

I feel the airflow is improved which requires less exhaust force to pull the air through the Intake piping. I assume this is why there is a more linear power. The turbo feels / sounds like it starts at lower RPM or is more effective at lower RPM. There is a placebo effect of the greater noise making me feel there is more air flow, so I'm trying to base this on feel.

                            Recomendations:
I am happy with this mod. It works well with my other mods, chip and driving style.

I would NOT recommend this to people who:
                            - Have not had the GTI chipped
                            - Have not installed the PD160, and panel or Pod filter
                            - Have stock diverter and dump pipe. These are IMO better places to spend your money before the TIP. Also FMIC if you are in a hot area.

I have to comment a lil here..

Firstly lets start with this video to see in fact the differences on the TIP's on the 1.8t's in general http://forgemotorsport.com/intake.mpg

Next, 3 mods that makes any 1.8t noticable for amount of money spent.

Downpipe (exhaust NOT needed for a MASSIVE increase. hiflow cat *definitely* not and if you think so you're a plain idiot (as in whoever not specifically lol)

Chip (whatever brand you choose) + N75J/H

Diverter only has to be changed as he cant hold so much boost constantly and eventually gives in. TT one can be used, but GFB & Baileys would be my top 2 pics other then the apr.

and the TIP. It will benefit from 4000rpm on wards where a normal stock tip creases and gives in where the forge/other brands due to shape/thickness of silicone holds shape and you feel a lot more boost all the way through.

You do NOT need some crazy airfilter, oem vw filter in comparison was under 2kw which is very minimal for day to day driving. (dyno proven). However if you run a decent intake system (not a snorkel but actual something from the front end you will get the same from an oem as a pipercross or bmc)

Downpipe = quicker spool esp from lower rpm, bit more sound and definitely more power overall.
                              Chip = obvious answer
                              TIP = smoother turbo breathing
Throttle Body hose, yes works but not something you REALLY need until you are at the end of your mods list although might as well get it at the same time to save shipping costs.

Just my 2psi after playing endlessly with mine and tuning it out as well as others.
                              What’s behind you doesn’t matter..
