Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Sad to see my GTI go

I currently own a '07 GTI. Sadly it has become a little small for me so I just upgraded to a new Tiguan.
I was seriously thinking about upgrading to the new GTI since it now offers DSG and a much more frugal 1.4TSI twincharged engine.
I love the new interior too. It also now comes with Sat Nav and climate control. What a car this is going to be.
I hope I will have as much fun in the new Tiguan.

APR also has a stage 3 tubo kit for the tiguan which bumps the power levels up to 370HP

From what i have heard, the tig is a very enjoyable vehicle with great functionality.

I upgraded from a 06 GTI to a new Tiguan ..... 2.0T (with all its potential) and AWD. It solves all the issues I had with the GTI for me.

Big Plus .... in a manual its only about $7K more than a Polo GTI and with 200+kw will have any similarly powered Golf or Polo GTI for breakfast off the line .....

Its like a WRX but with class & style ......

We have several customers who do "long range dirt road touring" but don't know anyone who has given one a serious workout "off road" yet!

If they can get a 996 Porsche 911 C4 to Cape York(Wheels Magazine, they only raised it up about 20mm, and the rest was stock), I don't thing a Tig with have too many dramas!!

No, meant WRX ...... 2.0T and AWD .... (even the handling of a Tiguan is good, though obviously not quite as good)

Mate, I think you should post that on the rexnet forum. I'm sure that topic would get closed much quicker than the Polo one. Still it would be a good laugh while it lasted.

Well.... a Tiguan with the 147 engine is quite quick.
                        Will it beat a WRX?

                        'fraid not! Sorry.

                        The Tiguan is a 4WD. That's it.

To be precise, the tiguan is actually an AWD Mini-SUV
With a chip and a few more upgrades i think it would match a WRX.

Team V, I hear you but if you need to put a chip into a Tig to beat the WRX, then you also need to put a chip into the WRX to be fair. Where does that leave your theory?
I don't want to slam the Tiguan, hell I'm getting one. But I'm not going to go as far as saying it can beat a WRX.

To be fair you would have to chip the WRX.

However one is a rally bred street car and one is a mini-suv/family car so they are never going to be on the same grounding.
The only real similarity is the engine size.

The Tig however provides most of the qualities of a WRX, however, it adds practicality where the WRX adds rally-bred abilities.
