  • Creaking driver's side door!!!

Got this really annoying embarrassing creaking sound whenever I open and close the drivers side door. Creaking is coming from the lower hinges. Any recommendations for a long term fix (i.e. any specific type or brand of lube to be used?). It makes my car sound old every time i open and close the darn thing. Dealer fixed it once but recently has come back again.

Yes mate HHS with creep. I use it on most and as it has creep it wicks into the hinge. Spray it on the pins and moving parts and work the door like mad till it goes away, will be gone for a while with this lubricant.

Had a similar problem - I told the dealer about it and they found a nut which was loose, so if the grease doesn't fix it, perhaps go in there and see if anything needs tightening.

I've only ever used graphite powder for those sort of hinges in all my cars. Works great, it's a dry lube so no mess.

yup, second for the graphite powder. Being a dry lube means it doesn't attract dust.

My car did this pretty much from the get go... the dealership put some gunk on the hinges at the first service which has made it go away. it was quite embarrasing in carparks the noise it would make.

Mine did this and when I mentioned it to VW they found the door had come out of alignment. They realigned the door (under warranty) and sofar (about 5 months now) it's been all good.
                    Cheers,

If graphite powder could wick in i would use it but it doesnt. I use graphite on Bailey channels which it is excellent for, that is one place you dont want dust.
Each to their own of course.

I had an annoying creak that VW couldn't fix - replaced seals, door alignment etc.

I showed it to jmac and he worked his magic, been 4mths and still no noise.
