What exactly is being done to the box? I know of people who freeze the gears is this what you guys are referring to?

That's the way to go, stronger gears and a lot better/usable ratios.

Wait , what ? HowStuffWorks "Clutch-type Limited Slip Differential"

There is a lot of things you can do , freezing the gears isnt really needed cause they have case hardening on them from factory , as long as you detail the gearsets and the case hardening is still there they are plenty strong for most applications . 02M conversion isnt necessary unless you want to run 500hp+ . The Polo gti box is pretty much the same as the mk4 gti , but the mk4 gti uses stronger syncros which are interchangeable . There is also diff pre-load you can adjust and diff carrier bearing carrier you can upgrade . Stay away from early Peloquin diffs for 02J , Ive had nothing but issues with these and have since used wavetrac with no issues . Also if your abusive to the gearbox no matter what you do nothing will last , your best to upgrade the box so the driveshafts are the weakest link as they are easier to change than pulling the box out . As for prices its just over $3k for a rebuilt box with LSD pending upon what damage there is inside , sometimes you get a blown box which has holed the housing and that gets $$$ to fix .

Doesn't it depend on what type of lsd you have torque biasing which is like peloquin, quaife and then clutch type which are like your $3000 lsd's

How difficult is it to do a O2M conversion?
                    What's involved for our Polos?
                    06 Polo GTI - REVO Stage 2 = 140kw @ wheels.
06 Golf GTI - Bluefin Stage 1 blacked out with ED30 theme, leather, xenon, etc.

There is one O2M second hand box for sale (for FWD), and would be awesome to get conversion if not extremely difficult...

This fella has a 6 speed in his Polo. From a MK5 2 litre FSI IIRC. Had to convert the clutch to something new and work the slave cylinder as it's internal. like a 4 motion.

I was chatting to Junior about his 02s, he says he is happy with it but other forums say it is a very weak box and even in some standard cars it craps itself.
Here is a Quote htat he replied to when i asked Junior abut his box

"Troy over the past few years I have come across many of these boxes and have bought 4 of them for between £200-£300
Thing is most people don't know what they are looking for and secondly the way some of these boxes have been listed on eBay it isn't clear what it is unless you know what you are looking for.

You are correct in stating that the 02M boxes are stronger than the 02S but I am yet to see someone fit the 02M into the polo and my understanding is there would be a lot of work to do due to the size of it and I'm sure the subframe would need modding too.

I have know many guys to run the 02S with 1.8t engines with around 300-320bhp without any issues so that's been good enough for me.

Being honest 1st gear may as well not be there but 2nd gear upwards its fine you just need to hold the steering wheel as you feel the power being transferred from wheel to wheel"

with the f23 and the low down torque first gear is gonna be a problem, both of us will be running F23 so we can see how we go. My mechanic has built a lot of gearboxes and doesnt think it will last long. A guy from ASN running a similar turbo to the F23 has gone through eight gearboxes

                              anyway anyone thought of this

This is my car and there are no modifications required other than a small chassis notch and some brackets for the gear cables holder.
You can use stock clutch and slave cylinder.
