what does everyone think of what will happen to the price of the polo when the new one comes out? should i hold of on getting one and wait to see what happens with prices i am sure they wont go up but they might drop a little.

yeah there is going to be a new one like Ausscare said with the 1.4l turbocharge and supercharge motor like the golf GT sports.
So i guess im better off on holding off any waiting to get it once the new one comes out that way i will pay less.

having read a review of this engine in a recent top gear magazine, it seems to be quite a gem. Loads of power and torque while returning very good fuel figues. I'm unsure of the accuracy of the performance figures, I recall them quoting 0-100km in 6.6sec, 7.8l/100km for the golf. take 150+kgs out for a polo and yippee.Originally posted by AusScare View PostYea new Polo GTI and shape. 1.4tfsi iirc.

If a strong engine with plenty of mod potential is what you want, then the Polo Gti's 1.8T engine is the way to go. Its been around for quite some time and have been used in both VW and Audi vehicles including the previous S3. And according to the May 2009 edition of Redline magazine pg. 34-43 (VAG 1.8T 20V engine is on page 39), there's a section in it that highlights the top 13 strongest engines that can handle reliably without internal strenghthening from mods that make them produce more than double the factory tuned power output.

Pretty sure I read that Polo GTI comes out in 2010 mid to late.
Personally, I think if you buy a new car, you understand you will lose heaps when you sell it if you sell it in a 1 -3 year span, or you plan to hang on to it for years (as I do). So choose well
It is crazy to be buying a new car every year or so and expect to come close to breaking even. Either have a thick wallet and not care or rethink your approach to car purchasing.

Resale not bad
I think the resale will not drop too mutch my 2006 gti cost $28500 early 2006 and i think i would get near $20000 today that is like $2800 each year so in 2 more years i sell it say $14500 that means its worth 50% in 5 years.I think 4 to 5 years is the min time to hang on to cars.The new polo is on sale in germany now and soon in the uk but no gti has been made yet so it may be some time off .I think oz may get new polo early 2100 but the gti who knows ?maybe we wont even get the new gti in oz.This may help my 4 to 5 year resale.mk 7 golf 90 tsi comfortine dsg lime stone grey

there are somewhere close to a bajillion tuning options for the 1.8 t, not to mention alot of bolt-on parts like forge/tyrolsport/apr intercoolers, apr, milltek and remus exhausts, kkk k04 turbo, etc etc, that make the current polo very easy to mod.
as for longevity-we all know its not an issue with the 1.8t. i've heard that these engines reach their peak efficiency only after 80,000kms- the VAG 1.8t is tried and true.
however, and even though the new 1.4tfsi engine looks like the perfick pick for the new polo gti, i'd wonder about performance upgrades.
remap, well- that's already in the bag. however, what happens when you want to do more than just remap and exhaust? will you have to upgrade BOTH turbo and supercharger? how much does that cost, and is it as reliable as simply bolting a k-04 onto a 1.8t?

Ask anyone selling a MKV Golf how their car is tracking now the MK6 is out. I've just been hosed in a trade in, but was expecting it...
Popular, mass produced cars were never intended to be a good investment.
The 1.4TSI twincharged engine is going to rip in the new Polo. It is a perfect match IMO.
It's still quite a new engine - there will be plenty of performance upgrades to come.
The 1.8T is a much more established engine, so those with it under their bonnet will always argue that right now it has more tuning options.
The 1.4TSI is a great engine in the Golf GT - torque off the line is instant.
You really wouldn't want too much more off the mark - it screams (literally).
Assuming they keep the 125kw (or even 118kw) versions, the new Polo will be a *lot* of instant torquey fun.
So if you were going to upgrade power beyond a tune, it would be turbo only IMO.
By the time the turbo has spooled up the SC is disengaged and you're up around 3.5/4k ... at which point a K04 (or even a Golf GTI's K03) will attempt to turn your tyres to warm snot.

Tuned Polo GTI's
I was starting to think that there are 2 types of people who drive Polo GTI's, Young reckless drivers (I'm going to bundle all of us in this group) and old ladies who like the Golf, but didn't need something that big (and like the safety features of the GTI).
I was starting to think that there must be a lot of tweaked Polo's out there for sale.
Looking on Carpoint, there were 52 Polo GTi's for sale (used).
Of that, only 2 & 1/2 listed mods. I say 1/2, because one was intake mods only (no doubt had chip, but was not announcing).
