Chip Advice

first of all dont worry not a chip war.

im pretty much sold on chipping the polo (APR).

however as im uni student i dont want to be repairing things etc.

so my question is has anyone experienced any major issues with having the car chipped?

possibly some input from the people who have had their cars chipped for a long time.

Hi mate, mine was chipped by the previous owner and I've had the car over 3 years now. Granted I'm not a Polo driver but I haven't heard of any of the local guys having problems. You know there is good support here with APR too, so servicing and repairs should never be an issue.

I doubt anyone will know if there problems are chip related. Only thing you will go through is a clutch eventually. Ive had a fair few problems. But who knows if its chip related. I doubt it.

with the extra boost, the hose from the turbo to intercooler blew off at near full boost (happened after 10mins of driving). I replaced this clamp, and then the rest, with standard hose clamps.

Several VW dealers will even arrange for new VW's to be chipped if you ask for it. There are also models (of at least the Golf) which are sold 'from the factory' with APR tuning in overseas markets. So I think that both VW and APR are pretty confident in their products.

I think Warranty is the problem.. Why do people swap back to stock when they go in for warranty or service?

I went in and had a warranty problem and they were very sore when they saw the FMIc and full exhaust system. I thought if they are gonna give me a life sentence I may as well put it all on the table, I told them it was chipped too.

They are chick to try and blame problems on mods so thats your only concern.

Had the Polo 3 years (from new), been chipped 2 1/2, amongst a laundry list of mods....
No issues to date (touch wood) including 18 months as a daily driver (130km a day) and 18 months as a track day/weekend car

yup, when a mate bought his mkIV GTi from a VW dealer in brisbane, the dealer recommended the mod and actually made it part of the purchase with full dealer support.

It's more likely to be generally increased wear from more boost and driving harder when the mood takes control...cos it/you will.

oh man you need to get it chipped and AFTER you've driven it around and had fun, get someone to do the driving whilst YOU sit in the drivers seat.

after i had been tuned, of course the car was much more fun to drive, but i reckon ''impressed'' feeling is even greater when you're being pinned to the passenger seat with nothing to hold onto.

i did back to back maps with my old man (stock for about 30km's, then switching to race map).

his words: "hahaha bloody hell im getting my next car CHIPPED mate!!!!"

No real issues - But it's important that you service the car at the absolute least on time, highly recommended you change oil every 7500kms/6months.
