New tune required. Some options require injectors as well
Interesting, FrankenTurbo are saying in reference to bolting on a F4H-T "fter installation you can drive the car indefinitely on your current tune. You would need to retain your existing fuel injectors and MAF housing/sensor until the time came to upgrade the ECU"
I cannot see how the K04-001 would be any different.
Who is your source Noone?
I would like to compare the feedback given so i can make an informed decision on what i am going to do with my Polo.
If you just do the turbo it will work with your v1 tune fine. You just wont get the extra out of the turbo, which is the point of putting it in...
You also don't 'need' upgraded fuel injectors or MAF. It all depends on who you go with for the tune. I went with APR and just replaced the turbo and 4bar FPR.
Yes you likely can, but as others have chimed in, won't really see the extra power. A tune is required to get the proper power from the new boost curve available.
Have a look at the APR and Giac options, speak to Gav @ CC.
Tassie what are your thoughts on the K04 ??, can you really notice it??
Was it worth the change
Cheers
Yes I can notice it. But I only had a K03 not a K03s so I can't know if you would notice as much of a difference.
I had just got the FMIC on a month before and was a bit depressed with the increased lag. It felt like there was nothing at all until 2000rpm and that really annoyed me as when cruising at 1800 before the FMIC it had a nice response for general speeding up or whatever.
Anyway, I got the turbo on and noticed it actually has less lag. Pulls not hugely, but has noticably more torque from about 1600 and just builds nice and steady until 2k then it really starts moving, just always feels like the car is ready to go. It just feels like a much more solid and responsive car. Tried one fast take off, could feel the axel tramp and spins the wheels. But really that's not the point of it, it's the in gear acceleration that I love. Overtaking is so much fun!
It makes for a much nicer car to drive daily. I love the turbo wistle and it makes the DV louder too. I grin everytime I drive it. My feul consumption has also reduced dramatically. On the highway it used to average around 7.2L/100km now it's in the low 6s. And city it's around 8.5L/100km.
Would I do it again? To a Mk4 GTI, in the blink of an eye.

Just a note - if you install a FMIC & get a loss of boost, it's best to remove it & go back to standard. The issue people have had with Polo GTI's (With K03 & K04) trying to make an extra 4psi of boost to cope with a bad intercooler is not a long term prospect. A good intercooler will lose no boost & create no lag - it should actually make it better.

Sorry Guy, without buying a APR intercooler, what about using the existing forge piping and getting a good quality core made up ??
I've tried to get some interest in this, think getting a batch done right would do the Polo some good. It would seem the Forge units kill a bit of boost. I still prefer it, summer is too hot for the stock cooler and a tune.

If you could get a good quality core made up, maybe use it with existing piping, or sell the forge kit and make up your own plumbing
Maybe it will be hard to sell the forge kits after this
