Agree. And in my opinion, the fact another driver is rude or drives recklessly NEVER justifies a dangerous retaliation. Drivers like that eventually lead to their own demise, without silly reactions contributing further to a potentially dangerous situation. Proves nothing, but reflects badly on the teller. Grow up!

i understand that no-one likes hooning, and i am not a hoon, as evidenced by my vehicle choice. im not saying driving a diesel polo presupposes that i must not be a hoon, but if i was a hoon, i would have bought something else NOT diesel. as for the convertible- i wasnt posting that to say that it would be faster-i dont know how fast the convertible or the coupe would be as ive never ridden in either- i just wanted to list the actual car for people to read.

and just to clarify- it wasnt a race. at that speed, 150m isnt very far, and there was hardly any traffic on the road- the guy displayed arrogance, and what with utterly crap melbourne traffic and drivers every single day, for once, i bit back, rather than do what i usually do, which is say to myself "thats right scott, slow down so that the guy who is overtaking you on the inside lane without his indicator wont hit you when he merges. that's right scott, dont beep your horn whilst your lane comes to a complete stop on dandenong road because the two lefthand lanes of traffic cant decide who has right of way when lane count reduces from 3 to 2. thats right, scott, sit there and fume to yourself instead of beeping your horn whilst someone comes to a stop on a melbourne arterial road, only to THEN indicate that they are hoping to turn right across a double white line into someones driveway, during peak hour.''

but i'd rather be honest about my story than the hoardes of people out there who say "i was racing on private roads......"

the number of "private road drags" ive seen on youtube, which peculiarly are beautifully lined, with reflective indicators on the shoulder and median strip, 10m high private road lighting, and one or two even had overhead private road overpasses that looked to be 4 lanes wide.....

im not going to presume that anyone on here is really that stupid by saying "as a disclaimer, it was on a private road"

so yeah, it wasnt a drag by any means, i had just woken up and was on my way to work, and i didnt want to concede where in sydney, i wouldnt have to.
      i know when in rome.....

i do apologise if that came off as abrupt or anything of the sort- i know what you mean, and i just wanted to explain (NOT rebutt).

All good Scott, no probs, just clarifying that we dont condone street dragging although a lot of us might do it!!
Its when the higher speeds come in that threads get canned!!
        Cheers, Andrew

thank you- i wont justify or refute the fact that yes, it was wreckless, and it takes two to tango- in this case, i was the second who came to the party.

it might not prove anything, i used the story to hopefully illustrate what a diesel polo is capable of with my particular chip in the REAL world. had i any track experience with my chipped polo tdi against other cars, i would have posted that instead.

as for growing up- there's a simliar debate going on on tdiclub re smoking tailgaters, lol. but yes- your post came before my reply to andrew, and hopefully i do make it clear that this isnt something i do by habit. everyone has had a "screw this, and screw you, pal" moment on the road. anyone who says that havent, probably also "private road drag" on private roads where safeway and mcdonald shops can be seen lining them.

          cheers

p.s. and cheers andrew, lol- just saw your reply to my reply to timbos reply to your reply, i think.

lol. thanks to today's cruise (which schooled me big time) i can see much fewer posts like that from myself in the future.

swap out ''traffic lights'' for ''frigging narrow, twisty, corrugated roads with debris all over them and semi trailers coming around the corner and forcing you onto the grass'' from now on, lol.

first, though, i need brakes that dont smoke like my sooty exhaust does under acceleration
