      Fitting

To keep it simple, if it came of the same polo series (i.e. late 2005 onward), as a rule of thumb it will be compatible.

Otherwise you'll need to check and double check which for a newbie like yourself (and myself too) isn't worth the headache...

I think the wheels and the grill are the big difference. Also the suspension (springs) are lower on the GTI. Plenty of people have changed their GTI springs to aftermarket ones to improve look / feel, so may be easy to pick up some GTI ones, but when the fitting cost is between 200-400, you may as well get the aftermarket ones yourself.

Its all about budget, if the car is worth 13K and you can spare 7K, then swap it for a GTI.

If you only have some hundreds, then the grill and the wheels are a great place to make it sparkle.

Shes only on her Ps so no turbo for her!

Other than that spot on. the wheels and grill will lift your image.

As a thought the red stripe around the grill on the GTI might make you look a little try hard, but it would look nice if you colour coded it to your car.

Tough luck if you bought a red one. lol

My thought is you don't want people going "oh thats a fake gti" you want them saying, "hey what is that version of the polo? Its sorta like a GTI but different colour and sizes"

        Intrigue them.

          Okie,

I have done the change and it does fit

Yeah as noone was saying the budget is a big thing. I got my GTI grill for $170 from a uk website and would be happy to put the details up on here if you like or PM them to you.

          Cheers

That would be great Matty, Thanks.

I saw one on a german website but i dunno?

Noone - The only reason i got a normal polo was because gti's are turbo and i couldnt think of a good enough reason of why i should be exempt from driving a turbo so i couldnt get an exemption... Oh well!

Should have got your oldies to register it in their name, that way you could have drove it till you were off your P's.

you could have said that the gti comes with side curtain airbags, whereas the stock polos dont, and you'd merely be increasing the safety of yourself and most importantly, your passengers, by having the extra curtain airbags.....

Did they change the rules to P platers not being allowed to drive any supercharged or turbo charged vehicle regardless of power? If that's the case then I really feel for all you newbies and which would also mean that P plater wouldn't be allowed to drive the TSi powered gen 6 golfs. Cause I remember a few year ago that you could drive any car as long as the cars power didn't exceed 125kw per tonne.

Yep, I was going to say, without anything against Jessica, that the moron P-platers have made the banning of them having access to turbos a law that makes sense. It's most likely saved a few lives in the end...

P platers can drive the new Golf TSI mark 6 because there only 70kw or 700kw i forget what it was but that was one of my options... They drive nicely btw.

Alright lovely people im in a new predicament!! I'll explain,

I went into volkswagen today to drop off my rego papers for my car i have at the moment and i told my sales guy that i wanna get a gti and he said its not to late because the car i was going to buy (pacific polo) hadnt been shipped yet so it wasnt to late to change my mind, I thought about it for awhile and decided why not, He said i could have a brand new polo gti for only 4 grand more then what i was paying for the normal polo, So i went to the rta and got the exemption form and i was filling it out but im not entirely sure what i should write.

I have 2 ideas BUT one of them would be absolutely PERFECT but im not sure if my carsales man would agree to it and the second one i think it sorta makes me sound like a spoilt brat.

                              1. I have put a deposit on a Volkswagen Polo GTI, Later to find out that they are prohibited for drivers on there provisional licence. This vehicle had to be imported from another Volkswagen dealership interstate, Part of the terms and conditions that i have agreed to by signing a contract with Volkswagen states that i am fully commited to purchasing the vehicle once shipping has commenced.

                              2. I have recently purchased (or put a deposit, Im not sure that you can pay for a car before you get it) a vehicle that had to be ordered from interstate there was a communication barrier between car dealerships and the vehicle that i have purchsed (or put a deposit on) has already been sold in the state it originated from, Therefore i need to find another vehicle within the dealership or is available to them. The vehicle i have shown interest in is a Volkswagen Polo GTI, This vehicle is in my price range and the only one of many that i fancied.

So! What do you guys think? Can anybody come up with any other better reasons?

Also it doesnt give you an option on the exemption form that a new car you've purchased? You need to already have it and give them rego number ect.

Wait.. so if i register it in my mum and dads name can i still buy it and insure it in my name? Im getting a loan to buy it (to get good credit rating for a house)

Yes, if it is registered in your parents name, you can insure it under your name...That way you don't need a justification to the RTA, cos as far as they are concerned, the car is theirs...Thats how I understand it...Just ring the RTA and find out.
