    If you can

If you can, in parents name is easy solution.

How much longer are you going to be on your P's? If its not long, i would use that as a part of the reason.

I think as a case, you need to state why you want the GTI:
    - Safety
    - looks

And also, that you are a girl and it has the same output as 2.0 or 2.5L turbo vehicles.

Its about a case rather than a single point. I think if you can build a report that says "I'm a safe driver in a safe car that is a turbo", then you've got a chance.

Good luck, last letter i sent to the RTA got me no where (but i was doing 38 over the limit)...

so now your getting a GTI?

have you ever considered the TDI? with a bit of work they have a pit of poke

Im a P plater aswell. I get pretty cheap insurance, great fuel economy and the torque of a V6 without Vicroads even raising an eyebrow... Love it

          nah not really

even when diesel cost $1.80 a litre, it was still cheaper to run than my 1.6 Petrol Polo.

the economy is a bonus on the TDI, the massive midrange and in gear pickup (especially when chipped) are why you'd buy one.

I'll give you a ride in mine at Nats see what you think.

Is there anything you can do to a car to make it go faster? Thats p plater legal... Also see how the gti headlights are darker then normal polo ones... what exactly is it? And do gtis come in 5 door?

GTI's do come in 5 door overseas, not here

dont bother mucking around with the Pacifics engine it will always be slow, so leave it like that and dont waste your cash! You'll be bored of it within weeks, believe me!

in all seriousness try the TDI before signing off on the pacific, you'll be suprised.... And you can make them go faster

I would do what GolfMan says in your situation. Check out the TDI - it will be cheaper to run and you can make it go faster if you want to as well. Also keeps the RTA happy.

                  This is so stressfull.

The car salesman hates me.. I've seen him once today and called him like 5.

Ill go and take the tdi for a test drive later on today.

But are diesel and petrol services the same?

If any of you lovely gentleman/ladies have the time.. or the patience could someone please tell me the pros and cons of tdi n petrol and tell me what it is that i want to do to my car.. i know what i wanna do.. but i dont know what things are called and where to get them from!

                  :$

if i had found this site before i purchased my GTI i would have considered a TDI as it seems there is quite a bit of potential in them from reading other members threads. and it has 4 doors

I think state as many reasons as you can think of and if they have a tiny bit of sense they might wake up from the middle ages and realize where car technology is going.

                      1. Polo GTI offers safety options that are not available in any other car of its size. (Curtain airbags, stability control, etc.)
                      2. German cars are making use of turbo and superchargers for the purpose of fuel economy not for just the uncontrollable power.
                      3. The car has less power than some naturally aspirated (non turbo/super charged) family cars.
                      4. You just want to buy a car once and not buy today and then get what you want when you are off the Ps as you want a solid safe car that could last you for years to come.
                      5. (the more personal reasons) You want 2 doors and the trim options that aren't available for the other cars.
                      6. You can go and take a defensive driving course which would look good on your record and show that you are interested in safety more than anything.

Basically, a diesel engine will be much more efficient - it will cost you more to fill it up, but you'll get a lot more kms out of each tank.

Servicing should be about the same - the diesel engine should last a lot longer though.

TDi is turbo diesel, so it has a bit of punch, HEAPS of torque.... the petrol engine is just a standard 1.6L, nothing special.

If you want to car to go faster, the TDi will be faster stock and have room for improvement (eg chip). Looks wise, you can do the same to both as they are the same car on the outside.

The tdi is a great car, but my main problems with it were purely based on aestheics.
                            1. The GTI looks much better from the front
                            2. The TDI doesn't come with leather
                            3. The TDI doesn't come in 2 doors

Value for money (short term) the GTI was a much better buy.
Value for money (long term) if you can live with the looks of the TDI or have the cash to spend on it to make it look like the GTI (which i reckon would cost you around $2500-3000) Then the TDI will save you more on the long term.

***The main advantage of the GTI is with some simple work and a little $$ it can become a monster *** just don't tell them that if you apply for the exemption hehehe

grills + springs + wheels won't cost $2500, but the GTI is definitely a better car, however the TDI is compliant with the RTA regulations and is much better than a NA petrol engine.

So out of the Polos, either go for the GTI or the TDI, the rest are no better than any other car in the class.
