end of warranty inspection

My polo will be 3yrs old in may i was given extended warranty for 3 extra years but are not sure if is the same as the 1st 3yr warranty . only the small plastic cover in boot that covers the latch striker came loose i am not sure if i want it fixed as it may fall off again.car has 6500km do you think a mechanical inspection is needed before my goes in for service and if so where can i get it inspected in sydney south west.

It's too early for a mechanical inspection at that that useage (unless the lowkm part of your name is true).

Is the extended warranty the real deal? (i.e. from VW, servicing can be done anywhere?) If so from what I understand it just extends your existing factory warranty.

If it is one of those dodgy dealer warranties where a particular dealership needs to service your car, they are not worth the piece of paper theyre written on! I would get it inspected in this case.

I drive a 2007 yaris for work that i can take home so i end up using that most of the time .So i use the gti for when im on holiday as work takes the yaris also when i go for a drive out of sydney or down south i take the gti .On the warranty stuff the dealer said its valid if i get it serviced with them every 6 months.I have been happy so far so i may continue i may be charged more money than other places but the parts will be under warranty.

If you use the vehicle that little, is there any point to the extended warranty?

What are the chances of you having a major issue in the next 3 years (6500kms) anyway?

You'd be better off just saving the cash for the 3 years, then when nothing happens (as it does not in most cases for such a young vehicle) you have some $$$ to put into making you vehicle look or drive a little nicer.

Don't stress about the car, its not going to fall apart on you... If you were going to have new car defects, they likely would have occurred by now...

I think i will leave it up to the dealer to diagnose any issues with the car, so far so good only thing i dont like is that they require i do a service every 6 months after i do the 3yr service but i can live with that .So today im going to add some km, i think i might head down south along the coast road via national park.

I don't know cars, but personally have never adhered to the time between servicing, only the KMS.

I don't see why a car would loose its tune if its just sitting there, although I would never leave a vehicle undriven for more than a week without loosing the keys.

Well time is important for rubber things... like cambelts. See they can do a huge number of k's and that's not what usually kills them, its just age. Leave a take-away food container in the sun for 3 months. Like plastic degrades in UV, rubber degrades over time and looses its elasticity and flexibility.

Also brake fluid absorbs water from the air, so thats another good thing to get changed on a time basis.

Cam belts typically need replacing every 50,000-60,000 km's, or 4-5 years. Brake fluid after the first 3 years, then every 2 after that.

So you got the dealership warranty. Might sound good in theory, but is not that great in my mind as they force you to do an oil change every six months (ridiculous in your case as you barely do enough kms to warrant it - every 12 months for you would be more than enough for you), and can have a number of exclusions. I would ask them for a bit more detail as to exactly what is covered and what is not covered, and make sure it is in writing, not just verbally quoted to you.

Not following the time periods can jeapordise any warranty claim, as the dealer can just say your car was not serviced in accordance with the specifications. Also, as mentioned already, some things are changed based on time, such as brake fluid.

My Impreza RS makes some pretty dark oil by the time the next service comes, how does the GTI feel and look when its due? Can you feel the difference after a service?

Feels as good as when i took it in, after driving the company yaris it always feels good.It has all its fluids up and is clean outside and in i never topped up any thing only the wiper wash last year.I get a call from the nice service girl a day or so after the service and was asked how it went she asked if it was washed ok .I picked it up and did not even know they washed it because i had washed it in days b4.Funny i thought maybe i will tell them this year to skip the car wash.
