Can you elaborate on your thoughts, about why you think the clamping force would damage the gearbox?
I think that bad control of the clutch, side stepping at 5000revs for example, would be far worse for the box than a clutch with higher clamping force.

i guess my question should have been, if you upgrade the clutch to a higher clamping force,or just upgarding the clutch at all from stock oem. would it create any adverse effects or strain on the gearbox, being that it is now the weaker link in the drive train? or is it purely a matter of a bit of mechanical respect for your vehicle." I wait I resolution derive pleasure this " latest spammer post

Personally, I believe it's all about mechanical respect for the car. I don't see the gearbox giving up because of the clutch.Originally posted by mikepologti View Postsorry , i think i just worded it wrong (brain not entirly in gear @ 244 am lol)

The above is not entirly correct I don't believe... If you stress car components the weakest link will always break first... If the clutch is stronger than the box, the box will break (i.e. Subaru WRX et al)
I'd rather replace a clutch than a greabox

yes i would break to if i were being dumped at 5000+rpm.Originally posted by Spec83 View PostThe above is not entirly correct I don't believe... i think thats where the respect comes in.

I've been informed by Quaif that O2J boxes are only fitted to Golfs, ie Mk4. Apparantly the Polo GTI is fitted with an O2R box. Usually you need to quote the gearbox code to avoid any problems. Remove your intake hose between the grill and air box, the code is stamped next the gear linkages. Usually it's 'JBD', then the remaining code which signifies the production date, eg JDB 24116, then 14 472 1 underneath that.Originally posted by Plautos View PostOur gear box is a 02J?
