Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • PD160 Intake question

    Hi All,

for those of you who have the pd160 intake on a pgti have you have any coolant leaks? the intake does touch the coolant pipes in 2 places, 1 is protected by rubber and the other one is not

apparently friction and heat causes 1 of the pipes to burst

For the those that are unaware the PD 160 is the SEAT intake. Mate I have yet to install one myself so I cannot officially commet but I was unaware that there is any problem with them. However I have just installed a Forge TIP and that definately sits flush up against a coolant pipe. Is this by any chance what you actually mean?
APR V2 Tuned, APR Dogbone mount, APR R1 DV, K&N Panel Filter, SEAT Intake, Forge TIP & FSB, Bilstein & H&R, Whiteline RSB, Full Milltek 2.5" exhaust

I'm glad someone answered that one. I didn't feel like being the tool that asked "Duh what's a PD 160"?

I'm interested to hear the findings on this one.
      Cheers,

      John

I know exactly what you mean - I was worried about this too, but I think it would take years/thousands of ks for the SEAT intake to wear the coolant pipe thin enough to leak. Anyway, to be safe I wrapped the pipe in a bit of the spiral plastic sleeve used to bind computer leads. You can buy this at hardware places (eg Bunnings in Aus).

hey man, you dont have to use that emoticon just because you're incapable of answering the question.

see, there are other websites out there. with other people doing performance mods on their vw's. the main one i go to, to learn up on this, would not refer to "intake" as a flimsy piece of plastic that can be swapped out in 10 minutes.
"intake" would, however, refer to "intake manifold" which people are swapping out with replacements from more powerful VAG cars.

i was simply asking if it was this little piece of plastic that was being referred to, or an intake manifold from a more powerful SEAT turbo car that can replace that in the polo.

but if you dont know, thats cool.

                          No need to get snappy...

There are other posts on this website and other websites explaining what it is. You had the part number, what more do you need? http://www.google.com.au/search?q=PD160

lol. i like to stir the pot.

and that answers my question. sorry dude, most of the time ive seen the word "intake" refers to people swapping out the pumpe duse (pd) 100ps intake manifold for a pd130 manifold in their golf 4's/ jettas (diesel). eg http://forums.tdiclub.com/showthread.php?t=239701

                            cheers and thanks
