I have a question.. with all this talk about the 35mm H&R, will the polo scrub with 17" ? pretty close to buying some

well Plautos Cattalini Lins has H&R's on his 18x7 rims with 35 profile tyres..... and apparently no scrubbing issues there. I have 17x7's with 40 profile tyres, i will let you know how mine go (i will definitely be posting up pics). i think i am getting mine done wed arvo now.

So long as the car passes the ride height test(100mm between the lowest point on your car and the ground), you have nothing to worry about...

Why would they be illegal? You may have to notify your insurance company though.

There are rules with regards to rebound etc. as well as the 100mm minimum clearence from recolection... You will be fine

As long as you don't lower it rediculously then you should be ok (unless the cops are doing a blitz). One of my previous cars was only as high as a cigarette lighter and the cops never hassled me (and they had plenty of reason to as it was a highly modified jap tuner car).
                        Cheers,

                        John

hey guys im with NRMA insurance and i asked them about their terms when it comes to lowering the vehicle. This is what i got:

I am able to confirm that lowered suspension is only acceptable for Motor Vehicle Insurance if all of the following apply:

                            • not been lowered by more than 30mm (approximately 1 and a quarter inches) from the original suspension height of the base model

                            • any part of the undercarriage of the vehicle has a minimum clearance of 100mm from the road surface

                            • any part of the undercarriage of the vehicle is not lower than the wheel rims of the vehicle

                            • the springs are fully captured (secured) in suspension mountings when the suspension components are at full extension (ie when the vehicle is jacked off the ground)

                            • the suspension bump-stop clearance has not been reduced by more than 1/3 of the original clearance

                            • the modification complies with your local State Registration Authority registration guidelines, and

                            • springs must be replaced, not cut or heated.

Does anyone here have H&R springs with NRMA? If not, if I were to get these springs, would I be covered?

I really want to get my gti lowered!!

                            Thanks for help guys!

lol... I would too if I had billions of $$$ invested in $hitty drivers... Take the $hitty drivers out of the equation and insurance would become less difficult and cheaper for all

As with a lot of things in life, you can do whatever the hell you want provided you don't get caught...

Just imagine what it would be like if your car was lowered 35mm (thus voiding insurance) and you ran into the back of a Lambo or Aston... If you want to seriously lower your car then the mainstrem insurers are not for you and I would suggest checking out Just Cars etc... Be warned though that their premiums can sometimes be dearer and from what I have heard are a right pain in the ass to get a pay out from should an accident happen.
