Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

Yeah I was also going to say don't just use the exchange rate as an indication. You will find just about every UK car is way more in $Aus than our local prices. I wish I saved the article but I was reading that VW reckon they can build the new polo for cheaper and keep the cost down so its most likely still going to be around the AUS$27K mark. Well here's hoping at least!
The Polo is also made in Spain too in case you didn't know.

Most Audis are made in Germany.

I know mine was, and the new A3s are etc etc.

No Audis are built in South Africa. The plant there do many VW models but nothing else.

Audi Ingolstadt, Rs models Neckarsulm in conjunction with Cosworth. Simple way to tell where your brief is from is simply in the Vin number of your car. Just before the last six numbers the letter is significant to build factory ie - A - Ingolstadt, S - Stuttgart etc etc.

I believe the 1.4 TSI that VW and Audi are on about is just the Turbocharged version not the twincharger system.

We'll find out sooner or later

everything i've read and heard on the new gen Polo it'll be the same engine from the Golf GT Sport, the 178bhp twin charged 1.4TSI.

Are there any high boost applications of this motor yet? (turbo only 1.4) Only one I've heard of is the 90kw version in the new golf. Punto Abarth SS puts out 180hp, so someone else is pulling big power out of a little motor...

Why do people mention the Ralliart Lancer + $10K mods??

The SST gearbox severely limits the mods you can do in the end. The engine and suspension are of a much lower spec than an Evo. You are essentially buying a VRX with more power. If you were REALLY interested in performance you would start with the '09 WRX as a base to mod.

It'll definately be the twin charged TSI1.4 as they've mentioned it already and made reference to better torque right across the rev range. Should be quite the pocket rocket even in stock form I'd say.

So instead you go for the Lancer, which is so ugly that the ugly tree screamed and died when it got its first glimpse of it?

i know this is now way off topic and has been discussed in another thread, BUT, imo the EVO/ralliart lancer has as awesome front end and a horrible back end, however the shape and stance of the car as a whole is quite impressive.

the wrx on the other hand, has an ok front end, a ridiculous looking back end, and the shape and stance of the car (front the rear view) reminds me of the oldskool mazda 323's...

I don't mind the WRX wagon personally as I think there are a couple of grill mods you could to to make it better provided you bought either a silver or black version...
