  • Cost for Polo GTi front brake pad change?

Hey all, I searched first, but couldnt find out how much VW dealers charge to replace the front brake pads. Any ideas?

I have a lip on the rotors, so If anyone knows how much to replace rotors by the dealer that would be good to know also.

    Ta

Not sure man, I just tried ringing Penrith VW to find out because I was curious too, but they were closed(I forgot it was the weekend!!), but I dare say it would be cheaper to go down an after market route.
I have been quoted a little over $340 to do a full front brake replacement(RDA slotted rotors and EBC pads, with me doing the work).
There shouldn't be more than 2 hours labour in the job if you do get it done at the dealer.

I ordered my from http://www.ebcbrakesdirect.com/default.asp (thx for link shaneth)

They were shipped from UK, i got rotors at the same time.

I couldn't find any dealers in aus that had them, they all said about 4 weeks to be shipped over. I order online tuesday arvo and they were in my hand friday lunch. $250 i think for front + backs, greenstuff.

Hey pomme, what part numbers did you get off ebc? Which rotors did you get and how are you finding them?

53000 and already needing them replaced??
i was told the gti pads and discs were better wearing than the standard polo as they are meant to be different material to cope with "enthusiastic" driving.
friend of mine had his golf done recently.. think he was quoted not much less than $1000 for genuine stuff.

Actually i remembered i didn't get rotors from here, though i kind of wish i did they are abit cheaper. They are a lot cheaper actually, but because they weigh so much the frieght put them to roughtly what i found them here for.

But i'm certain shaneth got rotors from the same outfit and they work a treat. As for part number, the search on there site gave me the correct pads, so i'd assume they will give the right rotors.

DP21479 - front green stuff pads
DP21497 - rear green stuff pads

Shaneth got a different version, red stuff maybe... which he had to ask them for, but said they are pretty dusty and will get green stuff next time. I'm very happy with mine.

Total was £115.70 which is $236, alot faster and cheaper than anything i was quoted in australia. My rotors i think were around 5 or 6 hundred. Alot cheap from ebc, but freight is the killer as they are pretty heavy.

That sounds dodgy as hell. What was their justification for that?

That does sound very suspect. To me that seems as though they intend to charge you are ridiculous price but don't want to tell you until you HAVE to pay (once the work has commenced). Either that or they see a euro car and want to have a good look at what 'strange bits' your car 'needs' just for a reason to charge you more.

I would never take my car to a place that can't give me a price up-front. If they don't know, they obviously aren't good at what they do, even more reason not to go!

yeah this does not sound good... they should be able to tell you exactly what its going to cost to replace stuff.
