  • GPS Mounting Options

    Hey Folks,

I got me a Tom Tom for Christmas (yeah it's early...) and I'm looking at mounting options for it.

I've got a Dash Cubby and ultimately some mounting in there that could be hidden so its not obvious I have a GPS in the car would be awesome.

What are you guys currently doing?

these gps thingys are useless they lead you wrong places and cheat on you (chance roots (routes)) memorize a melways!

i find the bottom right corner of the A pillar works the best easy to see and you don't have to take your eyes off the road...

Under the middle rear view mirror. So as when you scan your mirrors, you can scan the GPS in the same movement. I have it high enough that it dosn't impede my frontal view. I have a Tomtom One version 3, and only bought it for when I traveled through Brisbane(I have no Idea about how to get around the place, just ask Shaneth!!), but I find it good in that I can atually travel at the right speed limit, and not rely on that lying bastard of a speedo, plus as an added bonus, it tells me where the speed cameras are, and this is a free update I add to every 2 weeks or so when I plug it into the computer.

Can the satellites even keep up with a Polo GTI? Wouldn't you already be there by the time it turned on?

I keep thinking about where to permanently mount mine so it's still useable and out of the way so it can be permanently mounted. Though it would be cool to cut out the top of the dash and spring load it so it "pops up" and locks away...

In the meantime I just put it in the middle of the windscreen as close to the dash as possible.

If it has an engine or heartbeat it's going to cost you.

I did London last year in my dads car and had the Queen telling me where to go.

i dunno... im of the humble opinion that gps makes peoples' minds negligent/ lazy in the areas concerned.....

im seriously spastic when it comes to mapreading.......

but i try to write it down on paper- good to have local territorial cognition.....

ive got lose twice with a gps.... its humiliating.....

I kno what you are saying...I love doing navigation(comes with the job, but going map to ground while driving accross country is easier than navigating with a Sydways!!!), but I had never been to Brisbane before, and I was by myself, so I thought I would get one(I tried to borrow one to no avail). It works well, but I have argued with the hot Irish girl who tells me where to go!!

I can't believe that so many people drive regularly to places they have never been to before - lol

Unless you have bought one with SUNA input you are wasting your time.
