Did it sound like a hoover vaccum cleaner out the exhaust???
That would mean its on full boost.
Thats exactly how it sounded. with a popping sound on gear changes I would presume.. Very similar to how the XR6T sounds with the 6 speed auto. I thought the GOlf with DSG sounded the same as well..
It was on full boost, the old man fairlane almost knocked out the big mouthed gym junkie XR5..
I too have been called names by mates (one of my mates in particular, Poofo GTI) but once i let him drive the car he was very impressed with how it went, and this is unchipped. Although he said he wouldn't admit it in public.
I personally don't care what people think of the polo. I am stoked with what i have gotten from my $$$ and wouldn't change a thing. It is perfect for me and my son, and means i don't have to transport other people around
My boss calls my GTI the "Pregnant Rollerskate". Always have a laugh but I took him for a drive the other day and I think he now has a new appreciation for it.
Can't say anything about owning a Polo and getting those comments, but I got them a few times with my mk3 and now my mk4 being girls cars or poofters cars, but meh at these people because they aren't the ones who get to drive my car, or spend the money on it to buy it in the first place.
I don't see why this section always seems to have so much fighting over figures which you will rarely need to be worried about. To me the Polo GTI seems like a good entry level hot hatch with room for improvement via modification. Who cares what others think, or do you all care enough to really get worked up over it all.
-Aren't we all here because we like the cars Volkswagen make?
I had a thought about this the other day while reading a road test of the 2009 Porsche Cayman.
Basically the review said the Cayman is everything that made the 911 great (light, balanced, not crazily priced) and equal in almost every way to the current 911. The smaller car it cops flack for being ugly (which it is) and for not being a 911 (can't deny that either) but it finds homes in two places - people that can't afford a 911 or people that can get over the wank-factor of those three numbers and try something different.
I reckon the Golf / Polo argument is verrrry similar to the 911 / Cayman situation. Sure the Pogo is cheaper and uglier IMHO than its more established cousin, but it's still a proper GTI that deserves respect from other VWs.
