Bilsteins
I have a '06 Polo TDI with Bilstein B14 coilovers in it. Totally transformed the car. The coilovers are a little harsh and bumpy at low speeds, but out on the open road the car is awesome. Bumps are soaked up, corners flat etc etc.
I was motivated to change the suspension after taking the Polo for its first ride on the open road (as opposed to Aussie freeways). Felt as though it just about failed to take a corner at 100 kph. Certainly not confidence inspiring.
I think that the ride height on the TDI can never be as low as a GTI due to the taller diesel engine. Mine was lowered ~5cm from stock to give 105 mm clearance (was being a little conservative). No clearance issue so far...
My car still has the eco-tyres on it, and they will be replaced next...wife says I have to wait until the OEM tyres are worn.

PS - I love the GTI looking red bit you've put on your front grille.Like a whole new car, less swatting in acceleration, heaps less under steer, and the only understeer you get is very controllable, but the biggest diff is the amount of body roll, there is like none at all hey, it stays completely flat

I don't know for sure, but it seems to me that if you lowered a TDI to the same extent (wheels nearly at the top of the guards), the sump guard would be scraping on the ground. As it is, with 105 mm of clearance from the chassis, the sump guard itself only has about 80 mm clearance.
My TDI looks similar to polo_spec_ds in terms of wheel to guard clearance.

UPDATE ON SUSPENSION
Well I have had the coilovers on for a month now and learnt acouple of things along the way.
The car with the RSB on the hardest setting is most dangerous on "targa like" roads and would be better to have it on the softer setting I found. IMO
The car still feels firm but not so firm you lose your mind. It is very comfy in the city with the stops and starts, constant road surface changing and you dont bottom out either on speed humps and etc.
Havent had a chance yet to track it, That will come in due time and im looking forward to wiping the smile of some of the more "powerful" cars.BMW E36 M3 3.0L LTW - SZYBKI
