  • Unitronic Chipped

Decided to be lone ranger in trying out this Unitronic on my car. Opted Stage 1+ mapping for special introductory price.

    Power on wheel : 178.57PS / 253.67 Nm torque

On the road, the power delivery is smoother and definitely stronger with powerband extended from 3,000rpm all the way till 6,000. Having hard time to put the power on the ground from rolling on 2nd gear. One reservation about this is the boost is way too high at 1.43 bar. Need to find FMIC or seat Ibiza intercooler and improved piping.

Looks good, but we need prices and the dealer where you got it done...That level of boost is worrying though. I thought the KO3 was only good to about 22psi...That looks like about 20psi there(roughly). I would be worried about the life of the turbo and boost levels like that. Thats just me though.

I've got it from sole distributor in Malaysia, Auto Reign. I've got it for RM2500 (AUD1127). Normally, it retail for RM2,800 (AUD1262) in comparison to APR and Revo RM3,800 (AUD1713).

I do have some worries about the boost. Won't be healthy in the long run I think, compression getting too high as to temperature. And stock fuel pump and injector couldn't cope up in harmony. I've email the shop about some suggestion, let's see whether Unitronic can come out with something for me.

The above figure would have definitely be extra 3-5% more if I'm put in Ron 98 fuel

The cheaper price may be good in the short term, but the above worries are enough for me to stay away from it until the problems are sorted out and the program is reliable.

looks as though the HP (or PS) is up on the leading brands but the torque seems to be a bit down. much of a muchness i suppose. good figures there but its a shame about that boost!!

Not too sure about those figures ....

              141 PS atw = 103kw from a stock Polo GTI ?
              178ps atw = 130kw from a chipped only?

I suspect the dyno was reading about 10kw over. It is not uncommon for Dyno operators to inflate their dyno figures for that feel good factor for their customers...... I'd say the figures is about on par with all the other brands out there.

Boost is normal though. Have a look at the curve, it peaks at 1.42bar and then drops to under 1bar by 5300rmin. This is common to all the chips out there.

25PSI sustained is the KO3s' limit and this peaks to about 21 and then drops to about 14 so nothing to worry about there.

EDIT: Extra Fuelling for this is also not required. The GTI only needs a bigger fuel pump and injectors when you go beyond a K04. Up to and including a K04 you don't need anything except a 4bar FPR. The stock fuel system on a Polo GTI is actually very good.

Yeah those figure do seem a little high as a stock polo puts out around 91kw to 96kw stock at the wheels depending on the dyno.

As for the amount of boost the car is running 20 psi is fine, I'm pretty sure my other pog was running 24psi on Giac so its safe running 20psi.

Agree with the torque, seems way down compared to APR. I'm going to try out other dyno machine, to confirm whether the GT Auto does overread the figure or not. Even our "Tandem Assasin"'s NA souped up AE86 with NOS managed to get just a little over 190PS on the same dyno.

Now, need to get the suspension upgrade works.

yeah 103kW at the wheels is a bit steep in stock mode. after heatsoak set it, my APR'd Polo was hitting around 100kW at the wheels. even after heatsoak, i doubt a cool stock Polo could tip a chipped one.
