Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

Read a few articles, cant say I know for sure what the answer is.

I completely believe that a sports air filter may make 0 difference, but without testing on every car, you just don't know.

I'd like to see someone come up with a better intake mounting option behind the grill. After the little flap is cut away (as per Shaneth's DIY guide), the mounting point sits too far from the front grill IMO. Its tucked up a little high, so I don't think its going to get the ram air intake effect.

unfortunately when I had a look today, the top of the radiator is a little in the way as is the back of the front bumper section or the front part of the engine bay... I was just thinking of a chopped funnel and wide pipe, nothing too fancy.

When I installed the Forge TIP recently, I had a look in the air filter box. there was NOTHING in there, even though I'd chopped out the little flap completely.

Ive got a BMC CDA and I love it. Induction noise is great, throttle respond and lift of is good. I only paid £75 for it which is mega cheap. I wouldn't pay the RRP for it though. In my opinion it's not worth it.

How did you mount your battery? i could do with doing something with mine without moving to the boot.

            K&N

            I put a K&N filter in

A little tiny bit rasper induction noise, slight difference in overall performance over the stock paper job.

I hacked the plastic deflecter out of my seat intake at the same time. There is an amazing thread here somewhere where somebody measured the pressure drops.

You can get more preformance gain by adjusting your tire pressure

Does anyone know the cheapes place to buy the BMC air filter in Sydney? or anywhere which posts?

About how much are they? some places have them for 150 which I think is a bit steep.
