Have a look at the timeslips posted on this very forum ....

Power to weight is the clue here ......
    SILENCE!!!!!!!!!!!!!

no, sharkie, i can understand where you're coming from..... every now and then, even though i love my baby, my eye DOES wander in the direction of gti's......

im confident that a chipped pog tdi with better suspension set up, better intake, air filter, and dp, and martini and ebc, will still be a thrill of a drive for someone like me who isnt used to xr6t's and hsv's and skylines and wrx's etc.

and besides- someone has to fly the diesel flag for the australian vw pog community!!!!!! (not me just yet, but soon enough.....)

      easiest possible answer, YES.

one of my good mates has just recently sold his MKV R32....and for the 11 months of owning my car, he not once could outrun me - either rolling or from standstill. on a track, would be different story, cos he loves a good track day and i have never done one .

before you go and say he's a rubbish driver, he has just bought a track ready '07 WRX STI for....well....the track, something that he loves doing!

I was offered a 1.4 Auto and I gave them the keys back and took the bus.

        True story.

I got the Passat 2.0TDI with DSG as courtesy car and it went well. Excellent mid range but top end it was like being in the shower and the water turns off suddenly... (where did the power go)

There may have been a thread / topic on this previously - I may have missed it.

                  What Polo GTI gearbox recall...?!

Should I be querying VW if our '06 Polo GTI needs to be considered?

Yeah man, there are a heap of Polo gearbox threads, but you should check it out. All you need is your VIN and they shold tell you yes or no. Mine is a very late 2007 build, and it didn't need the recall work done.
I would suggest you give your service rep a call and see if it needs doing ofr your own piece of mind.

So because he loves driving on the track, he's a pro driver? Rightio then.

American publications have gotten as good as 5.8 sec 0-100 and 14.0 down the 1/4 in a standard, IV R32.

There are times as good as 13.8 in the 1/4 from standard IV R32's from around the globe (check [url]http://www.dragtimes.com[/url).

Looking at the chipped Polo GTI times people on this site have listed (mid-low 14s), that's enough to say the R32 is faster.

Then we enter the DSG gearbox. Launch control which will get you off the line better then a flesh and blood human with a manual can replicate, and 8 milisecond (0.008 second) upshifts. The DSG gearbox by itself can easily shave 0.5 sec off a car's 1/4 time by eliminating the worst hindrance to its performance - the silly slow human.

If you beat your mate in his manual R32 it was for one simple reason - you're a better driver then he is.

Even if a Polo can pip an R32 by a few tenths of sec, who cares. An R32 has so much to offer as a complete package, whereas the Polo is fairly basic - but still fun. Comparing their 0-100 and 1/4 times misses the point.

taking the car in for a service, not for the gearbox, and they offered me a courtesy car. so i think its gonna be a slow polo LOL

Had my gearbox oil changed today under warranty and had to bloody pay for a loan car, $45. @$$holes They gave me a new x-trail and lets just say that I am glad to be back in my own car now. I must say that even though I was not experiencing any troubles with my 'box, it now is so smooth compared to before
